I've used the William Hill offer as that looks to be the best out there at the moment. As shown in Numbers' thread, you get 3 free £10 bets after placing a £10 bet yourself.

What I've done is used my first £10 bet on a game that had relatively small odds (betting on the stronger team in a match that they should really win) in an attempt to get the three free bets wothout losing any money. Unfortunately I bet on the England v USA match (backing England) and thanks to Robert Green I'm now £10 down.

Anyway try and choose a game that has odds just over 1/5 (1.2 in decimal odds) as the terms and conditions state that you only qualify for the free bets with odds over this figure.

Once this bet is settled, you can use the three free bets. What I've done is used them to back the three most likely world cup winners - Spain, Brazil and Argentina. At the moment the odds are pretty good on William Hill for any of these teams to win and in my opinion it will be one of these teams that will take the title.

Therefore, if one of these three teams does win you will get the winnings for this and will not lose out on the bets on the other two teams as these were free bets.

Obviously you still stand to lose money if a team that is less likely to win takes the title, but my rationale is that it's only £10 and it's worth it to take advantage of the free bets and have a bit of fun betting on the world cup.

Yeah I heard about that offer at 888.com.

Is it as simple as you place a £20 bet and if you don't win you can just have the stake back anyway?

I take it they give it back to you as a free bet rather than actual money?

I just had a look at the offer and it seems that they will just fund your account with your money back so i guess this can just be withdrawn afterwards.

Sounds like a win-win if that's true. Or a win-draw at least. :o

how the hell did that happen?!! I'm a bloody jynx! To make it worse, I put one of the £10 on Uruguay was well chuffed, then found out the bet hadn't placed properly (not sure what happened but think it was my fault, should've checked).

And... although it was only like £2 on a couple, i bet on a couple of fights at UFC 115 and they all lost!

No more gambling for me, ever!

Mac-d has a spectacular aura about
I tend to do pretty well when these tournaments come around, last time i made a few hundred quid!!

I have only placed one bet so far this tourny, £20 on Chile to win against Honduras which came through, but ive been finding it hard to find good value so far and I find its much better to start putting down cash once you ve seen teams play a couple of times, that way you can gauge teams and the mood of the tourney in general.

First round matches are always hard to predict as has been shown, there are more variables to consider like nerves, team selections and tactics. i find the best matches to wager on are third round group stage matches provided you keep a keen eye on matches played up to then. this way you can understand the mindset of teams and likely linups, (who would have thought Eto on right flank for Cameroon??)

As for tips, Well, i would be happy to suggest some but it really is a case of 'on day to day basis'. Once, like i say get to gauge the teams more i can make some suggestions. At the moment though there is one in the distance i have my eye on: Spain v.s. Chile group stage match 3; +2.5 goals for whole game

Of course this would depend hugely on group circumstances leading up to the match.
If anyone fancies taking this one on with me , ill explain my reasoning if you just ask but ive written a fair bit in this post already.
I expect to be staking around £50 on this result myself.

Hiya folks - Just thought I'd share another little tip with you for the final:

If you've followed my advice from the post earlier on in the thread you'll have Spain backed to win in Sunday's match.

Now, what I've done is used the promotion on Betfair where your first bet (up to £25) is returned if you lose. I've used this to back Holland.

This means that if Spain win, you'll get the winnings from the earlier bet using the William Hill offer and you won't lose anything from backing Holland because your stake is returned even if you lose.

If Holland win, you'll get the winnings from Betfair and you won't lose anything from the bet on Spain as it was a free bet.

So basically you win either way!!

Let me know if you have any luck from these tips,
Ali
