Advice on Wordpress and subdomains

Hi Guys,

I have a pretty good domain that I want to make the most of. My plan is to have the home page as a blog and then create subdomains as product feature pages.

So for example:
  • home.com
  • iphone.home.com
  • xbox.home.com
---
  • [1]I am looking for advice on good templates and plugins that will make this look good, as well as any other advice you may have around the subject.
  • [2]I am also considering selling subdomains as websites (like moonfruit) to people... what sort of hosting or further knowledge do I need to do this?

Many thanks for any and all answers
John

1. ) Not sure what your after here, just set up sub-domains like you would usually.

2. ) Possible for small additional websites however you would need a good hosting package to host webspace, bandwidth and to handle traffic.

If you're gonna use Wordpress on these sites, get the Metamorph template. I think it would be the best as it is a set of different coloured themes for Wordpress. Dunno if that's what you're exactly looking for. Didn't really get your post properly.

just send redirects to the individual pages..... or clever use of permalinks.

OK I'll try and explain:

1) I'm doing something like FJ and Kudos do... have one "hub" domain with several regular normal subdomains (such as iphone. or xbox.)

I was just wondering if there were any WP plugins that made this easier, seo friendlier, etc etc

2) Well at the moment I host with an eXceem member, but if I was to do this I would move this site away from his hosting to... I'm not sure what! Do I need a reseller account? Do I need to buy something specific? Would it actually be popular?

Thanks

Sounds like you probably want to set up a network then:

Create A Network WordPress Codex

...this might also be of use:

WordPress › WP Subdomains WordPress Plugins

Mj10 you don't need to worry about the hosting unless you startedto get crazy amounts of traffic. The vps will cope now I have worked out what I am doing and have streamlined a lot of the processes.

For multiple domains or just one installation :S ?

That plugin is probably best for you MJ10 messing with redirects can make some issues later on in life.

it was just a single installation but after about an hour of trying i still couldn't work out why his windows server didn't want to accept a mySQL server...
