Seomoz have updated their site and added a few interesting SEO tools, theres 1 in particular that i think is pretty interesting. Top 500 sites, ranked by the number of linking root domains.

Hi, say my keyword is 'free iphone 4', to get a good backlink, should I put this text on the top ranked site with a link to my site on it? Also, if I just put them on specific pages on their sites, will I be credited or is it only the homepage. Sorry if these are stupid questions but I'm finding it difficult to get my head round all this SEO and backlinking.

A backlink is a link on another site and links to your site. It can be on any page of the site, it doesn't have to be on a particular page. If you want the to use the keyword 'free iphone 4' then use that as the anchor text for your link.

Yes, anchor text is just text that replaces the boring old www. and the .com (your site address).

I'm guessing that backlinks can be placed on any website or blog that allows backlinks to be inserted which are very similar to exceem and let's you tell everyone where they can get an iPhone4 for free!
