Question

Website SOS

Basically, i have no experience in making websites etc so need a bit of help getting started. All i've managed to do so far is make a website(not a very good one) using webs.com which was pretty easy. Now im tryin to make a proper one but havnt actually done anything yet.

I have done a bit of reading around and this is what i think i need to do:

register a domain name -what is the best/cheapest website for this?
get a website host -i have read a few people talking about 000webhost or awardspace which i think are free; are they good or is there a better one?
Also should I get the domain name and hosting from the same place?

With regard to the actual making of the website, i have learned some basic html and css in the last few days but i dont think id be able to create a proper website. What exactly do programmes like dreamweaver and hyperve do ( i think they are sitbuilders from what i have read) - should i download one or both or something different?

Where is the best place to get a free website template?

Also, do i need to link the domain and web host and site builder and how exactly do i do that? i think that file-zilla might be used for doing this.

I gather that i also need to use metatags and SEO optimization for keywords and google rankings but i think i will leave them until i have a functioning website as i dont want to run until i can walk.

I know i am asking quite a lot but would greatly appreciate any help or advice that anyone could offer.

I suppose what i am essentially asking is "what is the very first step in creating a website?"

1) http://www.exceem.co.uk/forums/gener...st-domain.html

2) I am using 000webhost and have had no problems.

3) You would have to pay for hosting if you do that, so I wouldn't recommend it if you are starting your first website.

4) Dreamweaver is very expensive. Never heard of hyperve so I'll let someone who has used it before.

5) free website templates - Google Search You can easily edit these using a NotePad or something like that.

6) Some hosting website have online FTP servers on their website. I have used FileZilla in the past and it is easier to upload a lot of files at once. It is also free - FileZilla - Client Download

Are you still using WordPress? As if you are then I'll post a few tips that will help you with hosting it with 000webhost.
