| meh.. | A Simple script to block Thiefs?Hey guys, I've been thinking a little about this being possible so I thought I'll ask you. We all know that there are gonna be noobs that will try to steal pictures and info from your website.. *sigh* So, is there a script that prevents them from "Right-clicking" the mouse while on your website? Just something to think about for the night

| Mini Mac | Some scripts to do this are discussed here no right click, disable copy and paste, secure web site I haven't used them so I don't know how easy they are to implement

![]() ![]() | you could argue that although pointless to some people who actually know what their doing, most would be unaware. my logic: if you knew how to view source then you'd know how to copy it obviously if you knew how to view source then you'd know there was no point in doing it becuase you would be found out, black listed, etc etc if you didn't know how to view source then you'd right click and thus potentially it may help...? not total security but better than nothing if its easy to impliment?

| Super Moderator | Re: A Simple script to block Thiefs?I'd have to say that I used to just right click pics and stuff if I wanted them... But that was before I came here and knew what I was doing. What I'd suggest, for pictures, would be to make sure you host/upload all your own pictures (don't just use a URL from other sources ie hotlinking) AND disable the right click action. This would totally prevent pictures being 'stolen' and would go halfway to protecting the Text. Also watermark you photos in case they are 'stolen' or just used by others.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | What you want to look into is a piece of javascript to take control of webpages that you can embed on your website, that way if they try and copy the source code, they copy the javascript too, then when they upload the source code to their website, take control of it and switch the ref links to yours, serves them right. As to where to get this code, you can't buy it or get it for free, you need to do the research and custom write it, I have been looking into this functionality for a bit now for another project, when I finish writing the snippet I will let you guys know!

![]() ![]() ![]() | You can also switch on hotlinking in your hosting control panel which will stop people linking to your images. I had someone copy my site including linking to all the images, but when I switched on hotlinking, they emailed me to ask what had happened to their images!

| Mini Mac | I wish there was a way to stop it, but a user could always printscreen |

![]() ![]() ![]() | One other solution is to create a transparent gif that is the same size as the image you want to block. You then position that image on top of image you want blocked, so when they right click they only save a transparent gif. I've seen it done, but not sure of the code. Although if the thief steals your source code, there's not much you can do.

| Super Moderator | If you use the no right click stuff you can also prevent the source code from being viewed by using something like HTML Encrypter However not sure what affect it would have on SEO
