Share buttons or newsletter?

I am designing a website and I have a small space to spare.

Which would prove more useful do you think?

Links to share the website - Digg,FB,Twitter,Stumble etc etc

OR

A textbox and submit button to sign up to a newsletter?

Now I suppose deep down in my heart the share links could result in people sharing the page, and then joining, only to find that all there friends joined through my page and so they can't get any referrals. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?!

Having a newsletter might seem like a great idea, but if anyone has any interest they'd probably sign up anyway, so I would have access to their email address through FJ.

Any advice?

Or anything else I should put it my extra little bit of space?

Thanks in advance!
