What about if you only link to www.site.com like I do, is that ok?

If you save the file as .htaccess when you upload it to your host it may be renamed .htaccess.htaccess so you may need to rename it again when uploaded.

When building links make it look natural.

Remember, not everyone will link to http//google.com but may also link to http//www.google.com

have you tried logging in and out of Filezilla, sometimes files that i send over disappear for me if i have been logged in for a while!

As for the "internal server error" sounds like there is something wrong with your .htaccess file

yeah, tried logging out/in, no joy! i assume there is something wrong with the file, so i'd delete it, if i could see it! emailed my hosting provider, hopefully they might come up with something.
thanks for the reply.

I know that my CuteFTP hides .htaccess by default, you can show it though.

I've not used filezilla but I did a google and found this

How to View .htaccess with Filezilla | Intrepid.com.au

Hope it sorts your problem

cono1717 has a spectacular aura about
Or you could use your PC to make a blank .htaccess file upload and replace the current one, it wont solve the disappearing problem but it will solve the Internal Server Error.
