Video Competition

well, my girlfriends in her A levels, and she doesnt finish until june-ish (like all A Levelers i guess...) ... so if your going to extend it your going to have take that into consideration. basically if its going to be extended, it will be months and months and people would lose interest perhaps / forget about it ????

i think a month is fine, gives more people a chance to submit entries, meaning more competition rather than 10 entries and increases the amount of time people have, but 2/3 extra just prolonges everything as yu said, people may lose interest, if we could find out how long people are going to want, i'm sure most people would be happy with a month extra rather than 2, if exams are the main problem, then im sure something could be arranged accordingly for everyone?

Its one video per network so the networks can use these on their sites - they wont really want to be advertising the competition on their sites!

i noticed in "Dave H's" video, not that it was completely serious, but there was no individual network supported there, as the first second and third place for each network has a first second and third, are universal videos with all 3 links in discarded in this situation?

Yes - a entry can only be a video about a specific network

Would you consider ending the competition at the end of May perhaps? Im sure there will be shed loads of entries then...

Will speak to the network owners about this, and see what their thoughts are, though I would probably use a poll to see what intrest there is

ok, this isn't an entry and was just a lil thing i knocked up.
...also, not trying to piss off any freepay lovers...
...but the video is based on a recuring theme about freepay (from what iv picked up browsing the forum sites at least)

Was just thinking about the video comp, and was wondering if there was any way to get better quality videos on it. Browsed youtube, and saw a vid that say if u put [ &fmt=18 ] at the end of the video URL, without the brackets it makes it a lot better definition. i tried it and i think it does work ... just a lil tip when people post their video entries online so they are giving their best etc

looking at my video clips, i haven't pieced them together yet as im waiting on a video editing program to be downloaded, but they are 50mb each...

i'm sure i can take the quality down a few notches, but there is nothing worse than a tacky pixelated advertising video..

i think the thing to do will be to post one copy on youtube for quick reference and someone (i.e Jon) either put them all in a channel there or in his favourites so there is one link per network to view all the videos easily.

Then entrants can also upload a higher quality video clip (h.264 is a great one for smaller sizes but with good quality) on a site like megaupload where people can download it and watch it at better quality if they want / need to. Mine is an animation and will have details that will almost definately be lost on a small, youtube quality window so i might do the megaupload thing anyway

b/w isnt that much of a issue, and I have been toying with the idea of using the podcast system to distribute the videos to ipods and similar

Hahaha I love it! Well, if I am correct in those bells being phones not being answered because of rubbish support or freepay just not being there?

yay, i finally finished my video editor download, but i can only save it under uncompressed video formats at 1.47 gig per video ;[

i shall sort this out and have my video sorted soon ;]

.. Jon, does the deadline at the end of this month still stand? because there still seem's to be a lot of debate about deadline changing.

ah go on, give us an extra month.....means y'all who say 'my video isnt very good' can spend an extra month fine cutting et al.

also, more entries presumably means more choice and so a better video will be used, and will ultimately get us all high ratios of yellows to green...no?

or are we all just in the comp for the prize and not for the 'greater good'?

well i think my 3 videos are gonna be exactly the same, but different wording, so if one sucks, they all suck :x

Maybe we could make like a big compilation video of lots of users with what they got from all these sites. Just like 30 5 second clips, each with someone saying "I got an xbox 360!", "I got a Wii!" etc. And then a summarising comment. Nothing very artsy, but i think the main thing which people want is proof. This would be the best proof video out there.

Also, if there are problems with who gets the prize, then maybe greens could be awarded? Hmmm i don't know, but if the video was any good, im sure something could be sorted out...

the rewards etc as they are fine i think, it's just upto yu as an individual to design a concept that is appropriate, whether its advertising the site, showing people proof of your freebies etc..
