![]() | Stupid InternetA tricky one here... Over the past two days my internet connection has sporadically slowed to a halt, I don't mean it loads the page I mean it wants to load it but you could be there for 15 minutes and nothing happens. It loads part of it, i.e the Title and any redirects but will stop there. The other thing is that even when this "downtime" occurs things like Skype and MSN stay active and we can have full blown conversations with people. It's not the router because we have swapped it, swapped the filters, phoned the ISP and they shown us that the router is receiving 2mb per second and yet no matter which PC, which browser we cannot load a web page. Here's another twist for you. Things like my iPad can load facebook apps such as MyPad but cannot access the facebook site through safari. Any tips?

![]() | Orange. Its not slow as in OMG I WANT THIS TO BE QUICKER. Its basically down without showing any error messages. So if the internet was down you'd get a "Page cannot be displayed" however we don't it tries to connect but just doesn't display the page. BTW I am here because I am tethering my phone, not the router.

If router (hardware) is not the problem then its a software problem. The router settings can be accessed either through WLAN or by connecting your cable with the router. The technician will then open up your router settings through your browser and make the changes, some tweaks here and there and a little software update. They can also check if you are having any connection drop (which i think is not the problem) by "pinging" .. Try speedtest.net and see if there is any difference there. You can also try clearing your cookies and browsing history and all the related things or try uninstalling your browser, re-download and install and see if there is still any problem. Try downloading different browser. For eg. If you are using Safari then try Chrome or Firefox. |

| What to put... | Tried looking into your router and looking for any unusual activity, firewall, gateways etc.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Although it's 3 PCs, do they all have the same AV/Firewall software? It could be something related to that. However there could also be line faults. I had BB problems with Sky, and when I phoned they said there were uncleared faults on the line. I was on the phone for about half an hour and they sorted it. I also asked if they could improve the speed, and they bumped up the signal, but it was only stable at 2Mbps. I've also heard that depending on the type of BT socket you have, you can disconnect the line that is used to control the phone ringer. It's basically an electric signal used to ring the bell on old phones, but it's no longer needed. But as it's carries an electrical signal, it can cause some interference. I've read about people getting a better BB signal by disconnecting it. |

![]() | "Apparently" orange where upgrading my routers speed (which never happened) and that is why it was down, still, all working now. Luckily I had GAMEfest to entertain me for the weekend it was down otherwise there would have been some choice words exchanged.
