Hard Drive Recommendations

Hi folks.

I'm running out of space on my laptop, so I'm going to add a 2nd drive as there's space inside for one. I already a 1TB external drive for backups, but want a 2nd drive for extra space.

Can anyone recommend a good reliable make? I've used drives in the past that have failed, but I can't remember the make of them.

Samsung Spinpoint M7, perhaps? They were the fastest last time I checked the benchmarks.
Western Digital are decent too.

Personally I'd avoid Seagate seeing as one failed on me a couple of weeks ago. And, whatever you do, avoid Hitachi drives

I've been looking at these in the last week, so here are my thoughts:

I'm not getting more than 1TB as I don't trust them enough to store too much data on them.

Verbatim - I have a 500GB Verbatim 3.5 HDD and it's brilliant. Never failed, easy to use and quick.
Therefore I have just custom ordered a 1TB Verbatim 3.5 HDD for more storage.

I have had a WD Book and will NEVER use WD again... it died and I lost 500GB of data.

I have also been looking at the Freecom XXS Leather 500GB HDD which is brilliantly cool!

Brands I would trust: Freecom, Verbatim, Buffalo, Samsung, Seagate (at a push as they've had some issues with their Expansion 500gb, 1tb and 1.5tb drives)

Hope that helps narrow your choices a bit.

Btw, my new 1TB Verbatim costs £55.06 on Amazon

I do now. But this was back when I in my first year of uni, didn't know much about it and just chucked a ton of music, films and other data on it. Thankfully no uni work!

I have had a seagate for years and has never failed on me, converted and re-reversed the format several times so i have no complaints! Iomega are quite good too!

Personally i've always been a fan of WD, however their latest range of external hard-drives aren't great. From their old range; best external hard-drive ever...

Lol, That's the other thing I'm looking at the moment.

You have any recommendation on an Icybox and internal 1TB?

Nope, the box doesn't matter too much I guess. Just read around for reviews, and ask on Overclockers UK forum.

Well the drive has had a stay of execution for the moment. Ran a defrag, which took 12! hours. But it's freed up 40GB!
