Galaxy S or Desire S?

After losing my previous phone, I now have two choices for a new phone - the HTC Desire S, and the Samsung Galaxy S. I'm pretty much stumped on which one to choose, they are just different!

For the Galaxy S:
- Super AMOLED display
- 4 inch screen

For the Desire S:
- 768 MB RAM
- Sense UI

Which one do you think I should choose? Thanks

I'd go with the Galaxy S, as the Desire S just reminds me too much of the Windows phone..

Desire S, has a reputation of being good, never been keen on the way samsung build their phones personally but that's just my opinion.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but still the Super AMOLED always makes me reconsider. Is there a big difference between a Super AMOLED and Super LCD?

Not a great deal to be honest, the amoled screen may have better picture quality but what is the touch interface like? It MAY be a low par touch screen as all of it has gone into the quality, something for you to think about

Also will the extra 256MB of RAM in the Desire S really benefit performance?

In theory yes, but not always. My phone has 448mb ram and 512mb rom and it seems to run fine, depends what you want to do on it, if you want to play games then that extra ram will help.

Knew you would ask up after leaving you in the state of confusion! Anyways, I still would recommend Galaxy S. It's got a Hummingbird processor, considered to be better than Snapdragon, and it can be overclocked to a humongous 1.6 gHz! I was shocked when I read that! And for Android, I don't think the RAM difference would matter. The Galaxy S sports a 4-inch screen. Super-LCD has a tinge of blue, while AMOLED has a greenish tint. The Galaxy S gives an iPhone-ish feel, while Desire S has the Windows Phone kind of feel. Dunno what else the difference is. Mainly, I would go for the Galaxy S for the monster screen size, Better and more stable firmware build for overclocking, and the huge internal memory. If this doesn't convince you to get a Galaxy S, then I don't know what will!

I would actually prefer a Nexus S, however I don't get what's with the price. Isn't a Nexus S simply a Galaxy S with Google branding slapped on top of it??

Trust me, if I were you, as a friend I would get a Galaxy S. That's just because of the superb reviews all over the web.

Yes, isn't that why the Nexus S should be better?

The Nexus S is cheaper in the UK. Are you paying in PAYG or with a contract?

Definitely PAYG, contracts are almost non-existent over here.

Preferring HTC is mostly due to Sense UI. It can easily be installed on any other phone too. I'd say, since there's positive feedback for both, go for the one which has a smaller price tag over there.
