Advice Needed

Ok so my parents just came back from holiday and almost lost all of their pictures thanks to a dodgy SD card, luckily I found some recovery software (Recuva, if anyone is interested) and got them back and while I can do that again, it took about 30 mins for the full card which isn't a long time but is still an inconvenience nonetheless.

Because the photos are fairly huge and my internet connection sucks (2mb/sec (max)) I have come to the conclusion that the cloud is not the way forward.

I am thinking of having an external drive that everyone can connect to and store things providing they are on the router (which we all are) but I don't really want it to be streamed.

e.g If I put a movie I downloaded on my pc upstairs I want to be able to dump it to the communal HDD and read it on the PC connected to the family TV downstairs without having to stream the film.

Can this be done fairly cheaply? I have the external HDD just no way of getting other people to see it.

Few bits of info for you:

2 of our PC's are Win7 the other is Winxp
The win7's are wireless and the winxp is hard wired

Have a look at slingbox, a similar thing to what you are after.

That's for TV shows though isn't it? I need like a hard drive so I can throw anything on it and access it from any pc.

It can be used for tv for can be used for photos and video too. Look at the slingbox solo.

Looks good, but I already have the HDD I just need to find a cheap way of allowing all the computers in my house to access it.
