Why are Virgins upload speeds so slow?

Hey quit complaining, I get 300Kbps upload speed! (speedtest says 1mbps, but my uploads never hit over 320Kbps so...)

My guess is they're "combating piracy" because you cant pirate anything if your upload speed is low

EDIT:
what kinda service is that giving you >100mbps?? Fiber?

Upload speed is always low, 1.36 Mb/s is pretty good. The best you can get is about 2.5 Mb but it depends on the broadband provider. That is probably the best you can get with Virgin!

Can I ask how you are getting those download speeds? Virgin do not offer more than 100Mb service at the moment?

My download speed is around 5-6Mbits which is really slow but that's all my line can handle. Upload is 1Mbit.

@ndev2k - speedtest lies to me alot. Last time I tried, It showed:

Nearly every time it shows an incorrect speed. either way too big or way too small.

I have only ever seen this with Kaspersky Internet security installed.

Do you have it by any chance

Heres mine:

I always seem to get the same results. People that have altering connections, you might be on cable and others in your area have it and slow it down at peak times because cable is shared with people in your post code.

This is not strictly true. Any service including ADSL shares resources. The difference with Cable is that it works on a QAM system which allows for massive bandwidth although the overall available bandwidth is small.

What service are you on? 10Mb or 20Mb? Also try using the London server when testing. Just done an experiment on the 100Mb connection in work and Milton Keynes, Coventry and Birmingham servers gave 30Mbps but the London one gave 98.8 Mbps

I'm on the 20mb a month one. Will try the closer 1 now.

That one is still Newbury server not London. PM me your postcode and I will check the area. I am in work at the moment so can check it.

I'm on a upto 50Mb package, so on your 1:10 ratio shouldn't my upload be around 5Mb.
No idea whats going on with the download though.
Until a few weeks ago it was always 48-51Mb.
Now it very rarely goes below 100Mb, but always very different results, never consistant.
Must admit I did use this test to show off a bit

Don't want to ask Virgin about the upload though in case they realise something is wrong with download.
