New Earphones

Managed to break my iPhone's earphones last week whilst trying to wave a fly away with my hand, and ended up breaking a connection in the right wire between the remote and the right earphone.

Being me, I'll be taking it apart and attacking it with the soldering iron when I've got a spare hour, but I'm not very hopeful that I'll be able to restore audio to the right ear! Before anyone mentions returns/warranty, the iPhone is no longer in warranty so I can't get any replacements that way. I will be trying to get myself a free pair next time I'm near my local Apple store, but until then I've decided it's time to set about finding some replacements.

So... any recommendations as to which replacement earphones I should buy if I have no luck with Apple or with repairing the broken ones? Comfort and sound quality are the main criteria (although price also needs to be reasonable.) I think I'd prefer earphones rather than headphones, as I'd rather be able to carry them around in my pocket and not even know they're there.

Thanks in advance,

Charlie

If you want some good value earphones, I would go for the JVC Gumys. They cost about £7, and the comfort and sound quality beats the standard Apple earphones. They're by no means the best earphones on the market, but for the price they're pretty robust

These!
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-C...0665616&sr=8-1

My dad's had two pairs for ages and I just bought a pair. They are brilliant, they sound better than headphones that cost a LOT more.

Don't listen to the above two posts, they're both cheapy ones. The ear canal ones are the way to go, the bass is so much better and they block out background noise.

I would also go for the Sennheiser CX 300 II, a VERY good pair of earphone indeed.

+1 to this.
You get what you pay for and the 2 cheap ones are the type of thing that you wear for 15 minutes then take out because of discomfort.

If you are worried about the price think of it this way...

3 packets of cigs will pay for it (if you smoke).
Next time you fancy a few pints in the afternoon, don't. There, you just paid for them.
Got a bike ? Use it for a week or so instead of the bus.
Got your own pad ? Live on 'super noodles' for a week instead of cheese on toast or pizza, much cheaper :P

I disagree with that. The JVC Gumy headphones are popular headphones which are robust and possibly the most comfortable earphones I've ever had.
Chiggles is only looking to replace the standard set of Apple earphones. I just recommended him some earphones that I know are pretty good at a similar price range and quality of the ones that he has previously been using

Hi mate, I was only trying to help him out, also the earphones I recommended was only because I read the reviews first! They are cheap yes but they can't be that bad

If you want to spend a bit more and get a stupidly good pair, I would recommend:

Etymotic Research ER-4P Portable In-Ear Earphones: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

or

Beyerdynamic DTX 100 In-ear Passive Noise Reduction: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

I actually have both so would recommend either.

I have these headphones and they are killer. Great quality sound, it just takes trying out the different earbuds and finding the ones that fit your ear properly.

Strongly recommend these, I had them before, lost them and went out and bought the exact same ones again they were that good.

I've got these too and can't reommend them highly enough. I don't find many inear headphones that comfy but i can wear these quite happily. Good sound quality and not uber expensive either! Big thumbs up!

Why don't you want the remote?
That's what I'll miss most when I get some new headphones!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone

I bought these
IN EAR EARPHONES WITH REMOTE MIC FOR IPHONE 2G 3G 4 4G on eBay (end time 01-Aug-10 18:10:54 BST)
And these
IN EAR EARPHONES WITH REMOTE AND MIC FOR iPHONE 4 3GS on eBay (end time 25-Aug-10 10:25:42 BST)

Both are very comfortable especially the in-ear versions.

Very cheap but not cheaply made. They both have mic (Handsfree) and button to skip tracks. Both have no volume buttons.
