I converted the American price of an iPhone 4 into pounds and it was just over £400! If I got an iPhone from out there would it completely work here in the uk?

A guy at school today told me that Canada is the best place to get them from.
I'd have withdrawals about things like warranty and SIM compatibility and whatnot, however.
