| blah blah blah | Macbook hard drive - think it's diedaaarrrggghhh. Just switched on my macbook and it started clicking and showing the folder icon with the question mark in it. I know this is not good news. Have googled on my iphone for possible solutions using disk utility but it doesnt recognise my disk drive, therefore I cant even do a reinstalation. Not too bothered about any lost files as I mostly use the macbook for browsing but will have lost some webpage files. I found a page on Apple support saying that some macbooks sold in 2007 might be affected by this problem so I'll browse this when I get onto the PC. Now, before the usual mac haters say anything, the same thing happened recently with my windows laptop, bleah. Anyway, does anyone have any miracle cures to save me browsing for ages?

| iBook | This happened to me before too I also have a 2007 Macbook (Warranty runs out on the 23rd of this month :o) and when I took it to the shop, (same symptoms, flashing folder, clicking etc.) they told me the hard disk was frazzled and I needed a new one. After I'd got the new harddrive (courtesy of AppleCare Do you have any important files on there which you haven't backed up? EDIT: By any chance did you notice beforehand everything freezing and the computer being incredibly sluggish? I had to do a force shutdown, and when I turned it back on, I got the flashing folder.

| blah blah blah | I was using the power cable so no low battery. All I did was close the lid as I was nipping out and I heard the clicking a few seconds later. No important files on it just some webdesigns that I havent touched for a while.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Exact same happened to me, and if I remember correctly, we got our Macbooks at pretty much the same time! (June 2007). I thought it was a series of things, as I got the "Kernel" Warning message too, so I bought a new 500gb HDD which was only £52! (Can't believe how cheap storage memory is now!) I also bought an external hard drive enclosure (the "Icy Box") which is like £13, but there are much cheaper ones for like £4 or something silly. I put my old hard drive in this so I can hopefully pull my old files onto my new HDD fine. My dilemma is that I've lost my install discs, and you can't borrow other people's, so I'm going to get the new upgraded version of OSx while I'm at it, (Snow Leopard) which is only like £21, so why not eh? EDIT: Also, make sure you have got a Torx Size 8 screwdriver (the star shape ones) for unscrewing the hard drive out of it's little bay.

That would be the upgrade version, You need to have the leopard install disks too. I bought the box set that had iLife and iWork in too, it was like £100 but completely worth it! | |
