Avatar question

Can any of the mods tell me what happens if an external site stops serving an avatar image.

I had an animated elmo one on another site and IIRC this site as well but it's been removed and is now set to "Do not use an avatar" but I don't remember removing my avatar from either site.

So I'm wondering if photobucket has stopped serving it.

I think externally hosted avatar images are uploaded to exceem. If photobucket stops serving an image it replaces it with one telling you why (bandwidth exceeded/deleted/banned site, etc)

You'll likely see a red x where your avatar is until you point the site to a valid file.

eXceem says no, but other people have them!

Host them externally at a file host that allows you to direct link.
