Vista XP Drivers problem

Hello,

I got rid of Vista on my old laptop and put XP on fresh.

However, now the internet doesn't work. Some of the drivers must be missing put you need to connect to the internet to get the drivers.

I know my motherboard information and whatnot but I can't seem to find the drivers.

Anyone had any experience with this? Badly need help, thanks.

Wireless connection used by two other computers in the house. My brother said it should be recognised by Windows in the network section, but it isn't. There are drivers missing and it's rather frustrating.

Have you tried connecting it to the wireless router with an Ethernet cable... it should be able to connect to the internet and then you can check for new drivers. To check for new drivers:

My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Network Adaptors > Your network card > then right click and update driver...

If you can get onto the internet using an ethernet cable try that, although the problem might fix itself if you can get onto the internet using an ethernet cable!

What is showing in the Device Manager? Is it just the network card that's not recognised or are there other devices not recognised?

You might need to install a PCS driver for the card to work, and you might need to install chipset drivers. Windows recognises most hardware, but not all. I had this problem last week installing an Atheros card on a laptop, and windows wouldn't recognise it.

Hey, sorry for the delay. As you can tell, I was working all day on it today.

My brother managed to find the drivers CD that came with the laptop and installed the main drivers from that. Then, he used the ethernet cable to connect to the internet and install the remaining drivers.

Phew, I was crapping myself. Didn't think the CD would contain XP drivers too since it was a Vista machine before but there you go.

My parents can now enjoy their new zippy XP installation. Lovely, thanks guys!
