PS3 HDD upgrade

Just receieved a 320gb hard drive and enclosure from FJ (brag thread later) to upgrade my ps3 hard drive. Would of been a simple process if i had actually ordered the right enclosure - got IDE instead of sata!!! So i will be needing to order a sata one, but in the mean time i would quite like to install the 320gb, problem is when i plug it in it wont work as it hasnt got the system files!

Problem is when i plug in my 160gb external hdd and try to backup from the 80gb it doesnt even recognise the drive (what format does it need?). It doesnt like my 1gb usb drives as they are too small!!

Any suggestions?, other than me learning to read the important details in product descriptions. Oh well at least it was only £8.40 so not even half a green!

Silly me!

Get a 360? (Only kidding, but just thought I'd say it to make a change from the usual fanboy posters!)

Are you now trying to install an IDE drive into a SATA slot, or am I being misled?

No ps3 takes sata drives, so it will work fine. I just got the wrong enclosure (IDE). So i cant backup/restore. Going to just reformat my external hard drive in FAT 32 which it likes then i can backup/restore using that. Then just get a sata enclosure so i can use the old 80gb as another external drive.

Annoying but my fault for not checking the enclosure compatibility, or maybe i can just blame richard! Jokes!

Just to update i finally did it, reformatted the external HDD to FAT 32. Not possible to do bigger than 32gb with windows, so i had to google and find a app which would do it. Used swissknife V5 which is free, very easy to use and quick. Backed up with the drive...put the 320gb in thinking it would be fine - NOPE! Found out you had to download the firmware (not backed up for some reason!) so went on the ps3 website to download it, popped it on the usb drive - didnt work! Bit more googling i found out you had to put in a update folder inside a ps3 folder - WTF! Finally it worked...? Not quite, whilst restoring i accidentely pulled the usb cable out and it said failed but it seemed to have worked, accept play tv which must have corrupted in copying. Restored once more and it worked nicely, so simple if you dont make stupid mistakes! So after transfering all my demos/games, 4GB's of prison breaks, play tv recordings and the stupid amount playstation home uses/reserves i still have like 220GB free - LOVELY!

Just need to buy the correct enclosure now so i can reuse the 80gb!
