Not sure about the removal procdure for Vista though. As far as I know, windows 7 will be installed as an upgrade, so you might be able to remove it from Control Panel > Uninstall update.
yeh i have vista at the mo, suppose i'll have to go see my friend google.

does anyone else happen to know by any chance?

I didn't, just went over my C:\ Drive with 7. I have the XP install disks so when it expires I can easily go back.

Hey All
I've got a small problem with Windows 7 which I installed yesterday on my computer...

Dongle doesn't work, drivers don't work. But worst of all, (I'm trying to get back to Vista) the CD/DVD drive isn't recognized by W7!!!!

I've tried running vista using daemon tools, which doesn't work on W7 either...

does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get windows 7 to recognize my DVD drive? I'm using a fairly new computer, so shouldn't be compatibility issues...

Thanks in advance

Considering dual booting OS X and W7, but not sure if it's worth the hassle of partitioning my drive, downloading the .iso etc. So I guess all I'm asking is, is it worth checking out? even though there's no chance of me switching back to Windows for personal use in this life

For those worried about uninstalling the win7 or vista in a dual boot with xp when you use vista or win7 they use different boot managers to xp so in effect when you install those and then wipe the partition you wont be able to load up xp anymore as the boot files for xp have been replaced. You must do this step first before wiping the partition otherwise you will have to use an origonal disk and go into recovery console and use the fixboot function in order to be able to boot back into windows.
the correct steps are boot first in to Windows XP put your vista disk in your dvd drive. I think that you can use an emulator as well but dont quote me.
then goto start and in run type
e:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force
(e being your dvd letter where vista is) ignore any errors it gives you from usb drives (much safer not to have them connected)
this command basically forces vista to use the old xp loader instead of the vista one.
Restart and the boot menu should now be gone then remove Boot.BAK and Bootsect.BAK from your xp (you may have to view hidden files in order to do this)

you should now be only able to boot into xp and now you can delete the vista partition safely.

For your info on those downloading from other sources I believe the correct version of win7 should be 6.1.7000 showing it is still using the vista engine.

I understand that it should be the same procedure for 7 but please dont quote me as i havent tried it yet. if not then you will need your original xp disk and will need to boot into the recovery console and use fixboot in order to boot back into windows after you remove win7.

Hope this helps
