Can someone pls help me?

I installed Football Manager 2009 and it has been running ridiculously slow to the extent where it's simply impossible to play properly.

My PC has been running pretty slow too. Anyways I had 512Mb RAM (which FM09 says is sufficient to run the game) but today I added another 256Mb.

So I now have 768Mb of RAM in the computer (which has a 2.4Ghz processor)
and the lag is EXACTLY the same! No increase in speed at all!

Football Manager still runs ludicrously slow (you click on a player and it takes 15 - 20 seconds to load!!)

Can someone please help me?

I've tried everything! I have 30Gb free space on the hard drive, I've got my Windows settings tweaked and no wallpaper in an attempt to speed it up but still no joy!!

How can I be legally sold RAM if it doesn't do a thing!!

Try shutting down back ground programs...like your anti virus program (just don't forget to restart it afterwards!)
Also if you go into task manager and look at processes, if you right click on football manager (when it's running) and make it a high priority, it might help! Well it has to my flatmates enjoyment!

Is it slow all of the time or just during bits of the game? although slow by todays standards it should support the game just fine

adding more ram can make a big diff, but just adding 256mb wont make that much of a diffs. Are you runnig the game from the cd or are you using a backup copy? as running a backup copy will be slower.

I've not played the game but are there any settings which you can change for the vid? and what vid card aer you using?

Mac-d has a spectacular aura about
if your running on minimum system requirements try installing the smaller data base for FM09. Maybe also try optimizing your RAM before you play. you can find free RAM optimizers if you google it. But if your pc is generally running slow you may need to do a whole manner of system clean-ups (like registry cleaners, spyware removers, virus scans, cache cleaners, etc.) even deleting cookies can speed things up dramatically if you haven't done it for a while. Also if you have a lot of data on your hard drive (id say anything over 50% of capacity) this will also dramatically slow your system down (use an external HD if you can)

its slow all the time. eg.. i'll click on a player and it'll load up, then i'll click on back and it will just take around 20 - 30 seconds. Every other click or perhaps one in three is followed by a really long delay.

i am only running one league with a small database but it makes no difference.

i just noticed that when i open Task Manager and go to Processes there's a huge list of about 30 - 40 processes, could this be slowing it down perhaps?
How do i know which are necessary and which aren't?

Start > Run > MSCONFIG > SERVICES TAB > check box Hide All non Microsoft Services > Untick everything you don't need.

> Startup Tab > Untick everything you don't need.

You will have a lot of junk that runs in the bg, like realplayer and stuff.

Set the gfx in game to lowest, dont load so many leagues into your game, set it to fastest loading times, turn off Show Player and Staff Images, Show badges Logos, unable 3D match engines.

All of this should help.

i've unticked a few startup things but the list of services is quite big and i've no idea which ones are necessary and which aren't. im afraid i might change something and not realise what i've done to change it back.

yea only at the moment tho as im runnin it in a vain attempt to speed by PC up

i also just tried something called FreshRAM which is supposed to optimise your RAM and after wards it said 87% free memory instead of 45% before it began. the funny thing tho is if anything it seems to have slowed things down even more

I spent a good while trying to speed up my main destop PC at home. It had three years of clutter on it, simplest thing in the end was to do a reformat.

how do u do that?

my problem is that i watch a lot of streaming video and with all the different webbased players etc.. it would take me ages to reinstall all of the codecs and plugins needed, not to mention all the other software i use (dreamweaver, bitlord, spybot, firefox, the list goes on and on..)

You would need to reinstall the operating system, so the cd would be required.

Can be quite time consuming, depends how desperate you are feeling!

Was the computer fairly slow before FM?

yes it was bearable but slow. given the size of FM it makes sense that it is proportional to the system in general and is therefore insanely slow.

if i click on Start> Programs in the bottom corner it takes about 2 seconds to bring the menu up.
