Website Domains etc.
Right guys, I'm a total n00b when it comes to website domain names in the context I am about to explain.

To make my websites I use Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 (or attempt to use) - I'm not sure if this will have any relevence in the following question.

I am looking to buy a .co.uk domain name. After I have bought the domain name, how exactly do I get the site content onto that domain?

Any help for the n00b would be HUGELY grateful!

The easiest way is to upload your file to a free hosting site like Freewebs and forward your domain name to your Freewebs URL.

I made my site on dreamweaver, then I bought a domain, then changed the nameservers to freewebs' so that it was hosted for free.
then I just used the filemanager to upload the images and HTML files

Ah I get it now, so all I need to do is keep my current files on Freewebs and then forward them to my .co.uk site?

no change the nameservers to the freewebs. then upload the dreamweaver files onto freewebs, so that the website is hosted

and tbh, im not really an expert on this, im just saying what I did

You would change the nameservers from the company you bought the domain from.
No idea what the freewebs nameservers are, sorry.

I'd defo think about buying your own hosting, getting a DNS server (Free DNS service - Easy, web-based domain manager - ZoneEdit.com is free if it doesn't come with your domain anyway) and doing it like that

Now Jizm, you are talking to a racing driver, DNS in my world is "Did Not Start" haha. Erm so, what is a DNS server and how does it help etc. etc. etc. Would it be easier you adding me on MSN? haha goo_crazy@hotmail.co.uk

I prefer to use www.000webhost.com as my free domain and hosting provider as they have no advertisements, 350MB disk space and 100GB bandwidth and you don't have a massively spelt out example.FREEWEBS.com. It makes the website look a bit more professional.

I use YourHostingArea - Cheap hosting, dedicated to you for my hosting, but then again I own it! lol

i have no idea who does my hosting i got a friend to do it.
all i know is i have CPanel, unlimited email addresses, 1GB bandwidth, unlimited sub-domains.
i also use dreamweaver and upload via FTP. i downloaded a tool called smartFTP.
i had to change the DNS on my domain, then use smartFTP to get into my public_html folder to upload my html and css files
complicated first time round, now i know what im doing
