Can't use google in Firefox or IE!

Okay...I'm on BT Broadband and connect to the net via a Ethernet cable that runs through my mains and plugs in to my ADSL router. Over the past few days, I have not been able to search anything in google at all in Firefox or IE, although if I type in a direct site most seem to work fine. (Some however are also really slow)

My brother doesn't have the same problem, and he now uses Firefox as well (I haven't checked my parents PC yet).

So, I tried a system restore to Sunday, but I still have the same problems. I have also reinstalled Firefox, but that left me in the same position.
However, I downloaded Safari and can for some reason use google perfectly with it, just not Firefox or IE.

What should I do?

Thanks

Okay, I thought I had fixed this after removing quite a bit of adware from my PC...but obviously not. I tried a google search a sec ago and it worked fine, but then after another it started the whole age-long loading process again

Hmm, Have you got an antivirus? If yes then check that out, if not then get a free one . You should also get a Spyware guard like Spyware Doctor.

Here is the free version of Spyware Doctor: Spyware Doctor 5.5 Starter Edition - vnunet.com

Re: Can't use google in Firefox or IE!

I had a similar problem too but I can't remember if I fixed it or not 'cos I'm back with my uni 'net connection in halls. (I have BT broadband too with that crappy HomeHub). Most of the time it seemed to conflict with Firefox but had no problems with IE, so I got the IE Tab add-on for Firefox and things seemed to be a bit better but sometimes still messed up. I remember I couldn't get into Gmail at times too. Problems stopped using the same computer but a different connection so I'd take a very random guess and say its a problem with Firefox and BT.

Just out of curiosity, do you have Fasterfox installed too? that could be part of the problem.

First of all, I do have an Antivirus and Spyware guard installed. (Eset Smart Security & Spyware Doctor).

I do not have Fasterfox installed.

I really don't understand what's up though, or what I should try to do. I have run scans on both my Antivirus program, and Spyware guard, but nothing fixes it.

Clear cache/temporary files/sessions and try it - worth a go, surely!?

I have cleared all of the temp files/cache etc, and also successfully 'Flushed the DNS resolver cache' but still have problems searching in google

Well the problem is still there...plus I can't seem to use Gmail anymore in Firefox. Again, I am typing in Safari.

What version of IE are you running? I am on BT and version 7 gave me all sorts of problems, but version 6 worked like a charm

Thanks for taking interest, and I'll give you rep anyway, but I've fixed the problem

All it took was an hour+ scan with Eset Smart Security, combined with a few scans using Spyware Doctor. I honestly don't know how I got the adware in the first place, but it had to be the one damn program that downloaded all of the other malicious crap as well!

Thanks guys

Heh, and I was actually just looking up the problem in Google again to see if I could find anything. Glad you got it sorted, if the probs happen again for me at least I know it'll only take some scanning!

Yeah, it'll take over an hour of scanning

Plus, it only found the problem literally when it had done like 99% of my system. I'm lucky I didn't get impatient and click cancel before!

An hour? Kaspersky usually takes around 3 on my computer with a deep scan. Count yourself lucky

Yeah, but you cannot beat Nod32 and Eset Smart Security. Seriously. No competition. (Just the first time I was scanning I clicked cancel due to me being impatient )

Plus there's the fact I have like 150GB of stuff to search through, with LOADS of folders etc. (I will defend Eset 'til the end! lol)
