Increasing Download Speed

Hey.

Does anyone know how to increase their download speeds on programmes like Utorrent, Azures, etc?

I know it mainly depends on how many people are seeding a file, however, I'm sure there is a way to get the optimum speed somehow?

If anyone knows I would be grateful to learn how to, either by posting here of course, PMing me, or emailing would be fine

Well i've looked for a while on the net, as I get awefull speeds. My max ever has been like 75kb/s but my average is more like 11kb/s.

I have windows xp service pack 2 and downloaded the program that restricts how many people you can connect to, and it seemed to help a bit.

It'd be great if somebody could help more. I use BitLORD as I heard that it was the fastest client, but I may be wrong, I have never tried others.

i find uTorrent very quick - dunno if it's just coincidence tho

can get up to 1.5 MB/s on a well seeded torrent.

I also use Utorrent and my average/top download speed is 56 kb/s

i set my upload limit to 10kb/s and i get my max speed on utorrent

I use azureus... there is an automatic upload throttler available asa a plugin. cant remember its name.. I also find that 4am on a saturday morning isa good time!

Azures is best for torrents, also make sure the little man has a green face, if he hasn't it means you're firewall blocking connections, open that up and ur laughing, I get 500kb download rate when I'm lucky,

think I'm on 4mb connection, they keep upgrading for free...

Get Azures Stiggy and make sure ya ports are open,

no, get uTorrent, much more easier to use, and better.

I used to have Azureus, and I must admit I was pleased with it, untill I found uTorrent.

but its the best torrent downloaded out there, most used, suppose it's about preference, it can be technical sometimes,

There was a recent survey, uTorrent came top, followed by Azures

I use uTorrent. I'll try setting my global maximum upload rate to 10kb/s see if it helps.

try changing the port away from the default setting?

Im not a heavy down loader so not totally aware of the latest tricks etc, but I have read that alot of ISP's are starting to bring in traffic shaping as well as detecting P2P clients and limiting how much speed they get, how much of this is fiction from fact I don't know (but Virgin now restrict your net if you download 3gb during "peak" periods)

well i just downloaded utorrent and got to admit its much faster then the normal bittorrent i was using.. cheers ppl.. was a pain to setup the router to allow me access to the port but 5mins on and it works a treat

bugger.. just noticed (for those how offered help cheers) that if i open the selected port i can't access hotmail

strange but i've just closed the port and it works fine.. any ideas ?

the only reason I can think of is, because you've used the port which is used for e-mails lol.

But that's lke 1 in a million chance of happening.

The port that's used for e-mails is 25 I THINK.
