WoW/Guild Wars, reason why my pc cant run them very well?

Hey guys, could I have some opinions please?

I have a Dell Dimension 3100, with a 3.2Ghz processor, 502mb ram *no its not a typo* and a build in GFX card with no PCI-E x16 slot which means I cannot upgrade to the newer video cards.

I also have 1mb Tiscall Broadband.

So theres my pc specs and net speed. Anyhow, I want to play WoW... but can I?? I think I remember trying out a WoW trial ages ago, at that time I hated these type of games, but it lagged if I can remember correctly. This was still when I had the 1mb broadband. Anyhoo... late 2006 I bought Guild Wars and it lags pretty bad too. But after having a good experience with GW I want to go up to WoW now. But obviously I know it wont run very good.

Do you think this is because of the RAM I have? Or the broadband connection.

If its the RAM problem I think i'd be better getting a new pc. And if its the connection lets just say I am doomed.

Your help would be greatly appreciate, Cheers

Re: WoW/Guild Wars, reason why my pc cant run them very well?

Just buy a new Graphics Card. You can get a decent AGP one for around £60-£80. Get a GeForce 6 series, that should play WoW perfectly fine.

Re: WoW/Guild Wars, reason why my pc cant run them very well?

I used to play Guild Wars and WoW and I had to upgrade my PC to get them working to their full power. If you buy a graphics card (PCI ~ you can still get decent ones) and upgrade your ram to 1024mb you should be fine. The faster the internet the better.

Hope that helped,

Chigley

I used to play WoW and you can play it. However you will run at only 12-24 fps at max. Probably suffer major lag in the big cities but you can still play it fine.

You may also want to get more ram.

Dude.... http://www.xfire.com/profile/alexfreimanis/ look at the top game on that list, and look at my hours.

That was from August - November last year. It takes your life over, I even stopped talking to my real freinds outside of school. Dont make the same mistake I made. Considering the amount of money i spent, and money i got back at the end by selling my account, I have lost in excess of 75 - 100 pounds in just those 4 months.

It may seem like a good idea, and you want to play it. But trust me, you will loose out on a lot of good times with the people that matter the most to you, such as freinds and family. Take it from someone who knows, its not something I suggest getting into. I regret buying the damn game, but it felt like such a good idea at the time, just dont make the same mistake.

Million more reasons why not to play it, but this is just a post to make you think seriously about it.

On a lighter note: I played it laglessly on a 1.5 Ghz pc. It does have a Geforce 6600GT and 1.5GB Ram though. The only time it lagged was when in Orgrimmar... and its full of people there.

It does take over your life, but only if you let it. I went into "hardcore" and i was playing a minimum of 7-11pm every night in a dungeon along with several other hours per day, probably around 20hours a week(mon-fri)and then an extra 20hours at the weekend is what I played. THAT is addicted.

I enjoyed it and don't regret it, infact I wsih I could still play it. Some guys I know play it moderation, so just don't let it take over your life.

You will enjoy it fine.

Re: WoW/Guild Wars, reason why my pc cant run them very well?

yeh, was a bit miffed at the fact that once i got to level 60 i realised that gnomes had +5% int and humans only had stupid spirit +2% pah!

Started a NE warrior, got him lvl 32, got fed up with him cos he was terrible!
Joined THE best guild on the server, then gave up, shame really, I enjoyed it. More a raiding mage than a pvp, but i dabbled.

You're right, Hated shammy's:

"casting frostbolt at half dead rogue then" BAM *frostshock* grr
Still, mages had best damage.
Sold mine for £74, shame, had I sold it a month or two earlier would have got well into the £100s.. meh..

(translate that then arctic :P)
