Card Fraud soon after starting?

After signing up for love film i think on sunday i had a call from the bank this morning and someone used my card for £30 mobile top up. So i had to cancel my card as bank think was fraud. Not suggesting any thing but seems a funny happened about 10 hours after putting details into my comp. Had to tell my friends who were going to sign up for me about it incase it would happen. Any experiences or is it just bad luck?

I think it is bad luck, lovefilm use high tech encryption for their card processing and I highly doubt the fraud was due to any issues at their end.

Were else have you used the card recently.

What anti-virus/spyware programs do you run on your PC?

Did the bank suggest what location was used for the phone top up?

Plus its pretty much impossible to decrypt the encryption.

Re: Card Fraud soon after starting?

Hmmm interesting. It may have nothing to do with lovefilm but it is a hell of a coinsidence that i had to cancel my bank card last week when a £30 top up transaction also popped up on my account, which is now being investigated by the banks fraud department.

What other offers/sites have you signed upto?

EDIT: What was it listed as on your statement? On mine it was 'o2 prepay slough'

My maths teacher in uni rambled on about a nano computer is the only way to break the encryption. And a nano computer is not expected for a few years lol.

Did they say if the card had been used in a shop or online?

If it had been used in a shop (and you signed up to lovefilm on the net) then it is definitely NOT from LoveFilm. The card being used at a shop/ATM means that it's been cloned, which requires the actual card to be achieved.

Some boogar cloned my card and tried to use it in India to withdraw £200 from a cash machine, when i had used the card about 30 mins before to buy a Nintendo DS :O I still haven't figured out where it was cloned!

If it was an online purchase, then it could be anything from a dodgy keylogger to the card being cloned.

Re: Card Fraud soon after starting?

only did the love films and gala cancelled my cards now. May be an idea for people to double check there cards as 30 pounds is so small may not pick up, the bank did a good job though by ringing me

Re: Card Fraud soon after starting?

I had my card cloned and they stole about £800 off me and luckily my bank refunded me the whole amount.

if it was a credit card transaction then the voucher would have been issued at the time of the transaction, then applied to a phone number surely!!

yup, but I'm guessing that there would be nothing linking that phone number with an address, unless the person was real dumb and actually registered it, with their real address.

is £30 the most that can be topped up? why didnt they top up more?
