40gb Ps3 or wait for 80gb

Just out of interest...

I tried to verify for my first gift last Sunday on ps3.r-i.com... a 60gb Ps3+2 games (ie the 80Gb Ps3 pre-order)

I had 14 greens of which 2 were put on hold. One of which i was expecting.

So now I have 12greens, and although I'm sure I can get the 2 referrals I'm wondering whether to just change my gift to a 40gb Ps3.

I have 2 questions:

1) How many referrals are needed for a 40Gb Ps3 (is it 10 or 11)?
2) Should I get some more referrals and wait to see if the 80gb version arrives in the UK?

What is the general opinion about waiting for the 80gb version?

GET THE 80GB!! The 40 GB has no backward compatibility what so-ever!

This was the main reason why i wanted a 60gb. Even though my lastest ps2 is only a year old (I had to retire my first as the lens had gone along with other things) i would much prefer backwards compatability.

I was reading on a ps3 forum the other day that it is more likely that if a 80Gb comes out with will be identical to the 40gb except HDD size. Now all the 80Gb talk is pretty much rumours at the moment though.

I main reason for having a Ps3 is for GTA4 (and possibly Burnout) so i suppose i could just wait and see what happens.

I think i just find it frustrating knowing that I can get a ps3 now but I will have to let my account sit there indefinitely until a new version is available.

I would say get the 40 gb,

Although it offers no backwards compatibility, who is going to fill up 80gb worth! That is going to take some serious gaming!

But whatever you choose ENJOY IT!

I went for the 40 because i couldn't be bothered to wait.I was not bothered about backward compatablity because i would just dust down the ps2 and fire it up.The 40 has no card readers but if you want you can upgrade the hard drive yourself and make it an 80gb.Oh and it has 2 less usb ports.
Me personally am glad with the choice i made.Just need to build up me games collection.

I suppose if i got the extra 2 referrals i could get amazon vouchers and get some games as well....

@Detox - I suppose my problem is really when it will be out and will it have any advantages over the 40Gb except HDD size. These are questions that i'll have to also wait for the answers too!!!!
