Music is like religion, causes so many problems!

Cant we all agree to disagree that we all have our own musical tastes, I went through 3 years of school with friends moaning at me because I listened to dance music, when they listened to indie/rock/screamo. I dont want to come to a forum and get told I dont listen to real music.

MUSIC IS MUSIC FACT.

It is mass market drivel that appeals to people who have yet to, or unable to appreciate the true art form and power of emotion and feeling that 'real music' can deliver.

Her 'music' is based on her image coupled with the mind numbing, so called 'catchyness' of her songs.
There is no attempt at any technical quality, nor attempt to contribute anything to the development of music as a medium.

There no value in her music. I would liken its value to Elevator music and I would liken its simple catchynes to the Eastenders theme tune.
It's her and her songs image that sells the records, from the cool way she dresses and behaves to the cool electrical sounding beats that are in her songs.
I believe its indicative of people today that this proves to be popular....

Justification? hows that?

Probably a fair point, could argue there are other genres their but that would be anal, so I would generally agree with that.

I disagree. Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Sex on Fire got to number one. Whatever you think of the song most people would say KOL are a "real" music band and I doubt people would say that song was "designed" to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

Give me an example of this so-called real music. It's very difficult to debate this without examples of what you consider "real" music.

True art form!? I went to an art exhibit where a turd was passed off as art, I think it's poncey BS to start talking about "true art forms"!!

Power of emotion!? Different people respond differently to music. Who is to say that someone doesn't respond as powerfully to Lady GaGa's "Brown Eyes" as I do to Radioheads "Nude", and who is to say that that emotional response is any less valid because Radiohead are perceived as "real"?!

So was Bowie. So are most emo bands, goth bands. Find a band that doesn't have any type of image congruent with it's style. She shouldn't be criticised for that any more than anyone else.

Steve Vai only atempts technical quality, bit no one likes him! Like I said, KOL have songs that consist of 3 basic chords but they are still great songs. Lack of technical quality does not equal lack of musical quality - surely someone who appreciates a "true art form" would realise that art is not about technical expertis.

Neither do most bands! Most bands are to a greater or lesser extent derivitave - even ones producing "real" music - why is Lady Gaga to be so lambasted for this?!

Damn, need to go back and see what I was saying before I can respond to this!
