Depends on the wording of the warranty and what it covers, wouldn't like to say unless and until i've read it.

What the hell has he been doing with it? He looks like he's been playing with it in a sand pit. I guess if it was a warranty issue then maybe but it doesn't look like damage has been avoided!

In the warranty it is mentioned that damage due to neglect will not be covered and that state certainly shows neglect

it says in there that damage caused by neglect will not be covered- i reckon the pics show quite a fair bit of neglect.
It takes 10 seconds to wipe over your ps3 every few days at least.

Re: Should Sony repair this PS3

Fair enough that neglect isn't covered, but what warrants neglect? The state of that PS3 only looks cosmetic, i.e. dusty and dirty. But why should that affect the electronics inside if they fail?

That's like saying if you don't wash your car and it breaks it won't get fixed by the garage.

i know what you're saying... the garage would fix the car but would charge you more if the dirt would have clogged the engine and stuff.

i mean there are enough ventilation holes on the PS3 for dust to easily enter, but those pictures reveal much more than just dust, apparently

I don't think its a stretch of the imagination to think that that amount of dust and neglect could have affected the electronics. At the end of the day they only showed the picture of the outside so we don't know how much crap got inside to mess it up. If it is PURELY cosmetic then fair enough, but surely its no coincidence that a PS3 with that much cosmetic damage stops working?

Re: Should Sony repair this PS3

If the electronics over heat then it will damage the system, if the system can't keep its self cooled down to a minimum temp then it will over heat...

By looking at this photo you can see that the dust here will clog up the fans and provent air ventelation to the system.

It goes without saying, if you can't be bothered to take care of your system then why should sony compensate you?

I wouldnt buy a flasy car to just go and rally drive with it, I can understand if you have purchased something and the fault is to blame of the hardware but this is a no win situation here.

well he can't expect it to be fixed if he's treated it like that - sony aren't exactly the most compromising of companies when it comes to warranties etc.
