Hamsters are quality and not too difficult to keep, just give 'em fresh gear to run round in every week, feed and water once a day and bobs your uncle. However they're nocturnal and if you keep it in your bedroom the little bastard will keep you awake at night.

Turtles I have no experience of, not sure of what their living environment is and how difficult it is to maintain, but I don't believe it'd keep you awake at night

Very true, but they are sooooooooo much fun unlike turtles, last year me and my flatmate bought a hamster and then my other flat mates bought a couple of water turtles, similar to what you're thinking of getting, people say hamsters stink, but only if you don't clean their cages out for weeks, turtle tanks absolutely stink!!!!! from day one, also they are very boring and non responsive, and I know I might be a little biased, but from an unbiased point of view, you do get alot more fun out of hamsters, you feel that sense of communication, if that makes sense, where was turtles, they just lay in the water and do nothing, they smell and so does their food..

Seriously, get a hamster! They're so cool!

hamsters dont live very long either , i had a hamster when i was little it was called herbie lol
personally i wouldnt get either but thats just me , a pet should be fun neither hamsters or turtles do a lot really do they ?

A dog needs feeding, walking, cleaning, cutting, vet bills etc... They're like another family member. Whereas with a hamster or Turtle you can just forget about it and feed it every so often lol!

Hamsters are fun, they have a little personality and are extremely cute, unless they bite you or grind their teeth on the side of the cage at 3:00am little f*****!

Yeah Hamster but don't leave it in your room overnight. And don't leave clothes or towels nearby, they have them too. And don't get russian hamsters, they chew their own legs off. Other than that they are great!

As for anyone who said Yellow Bellied Turtle - do you really want a pet with a yellow belly?? All the other pets would be legitimately be able to call him a yellow belly!!

just to confirm i am 25 so i wouldn't have to leave the hamster in my bedroom lol advantages to a house..

right i was thinking a hamster due to some of the points above, they're more playful, don't take much looking after and i suppose if my niece and nephew come round, they'll have something to play with.

i was thinking a turtle (esp yellow belly) as they're cute, fun to watch (well they entertain my when i pop into the pet shop) and can last some time.. i even thought about a herman turtle but they're too much to purchase along with all the gear in one go..

i can't go for anything bigger as i rent the house and the landlord doesn't approve else i'd have a dog within seconds..

Hamster. Although try not to kneel on it - my brother knelt on mine when I was younger (much younger) and he was never the same. In fact he was dead - not a nice way to go!!
