Princess Diana

Just wondering what people's opinions are on of the fact that 10 years after her death, the media and loads of people are still raving about her. I find it absolutely stupid imo that she is on the daily express around 2-5 a week, for the last year (and i bet for the 9 previous years!). I find it totally obsessive. While she may have been a really nice person, I can't believe how obsessive people are still about her. Anyway your thoughts now guys! I am really intrigued to see what people on here think about it! :P

The media are obsessive, i must admit when she died i went upto Kensington Palace and laid some flowers and it was the most moving thing i have every experieced .

I think that most people remember, the young prince's walking behind her coffin, and i suppose how she died and her age has alot to do with it!!!!

...and the fact that she was a lovely woman and did so much for other people.

Whereas I do agree that the media is obsessive about it, I just think they want everyone to still keep her in mind. Especially during those "dark times", when there isn't much good happening in the world.

Re: Princess Diana

Hmm not sure you've got that one quite right, I wouldn't use the words hype or obsessive. There have been so many separate stories about her, much still unresolved. E.g. why and who was involved in her accident, the butler, Camilla, etc etc.

Also I take it your family are Daily Express readers? As this would affect your view somewhat. Taken from Wikipedia:

Quote:
"Diana Express"
The Daily Express has a reputation for consistently printing conspiracy theories based on the death of Princess Diana as front page news, earning it the nickname, the Daily Ex-Princess; this is often satirised in Private Eye, the newspaper being labelled the Diana Express or the Di'ly Express, possibly due to Desmond's close friendship with regular Eye target Mohamed Fayed. [4] Even on July 7, 2006, the anniversary of the London bombings (used by most other newspapers to publish commemorations) the front page was given over to Diana. BBC News Online's Magazine Monitor has frequently noted that articles about Princess Diana are often printed on Mondays regardless of the existence of more pressing news.[5] This tendency was also mocked on Have I Got News for You when on 6 November 2006, the day other papers reported the death sentence given to Saddam Hussein on their front pages, the Express led with “SPIES COVER UP DIANA ‘MURDER’”. Furthermore, the newspaper's obsession with the late princess actually extends to its official website: sending a blank request through the site's search engine causes the search field to be filled with "Princess Diana" when the results page loads[6].

For the week beginning August 27, 2006, the paper printed the "Diana Dossier" in which it claimed to ask all the questions related to the death. Diana was on the front page every day (except Sunday) that week.

Yeah she has had an unusual amount of attention since her death, but as young'uns (me and you), I don't think we fully appreciate what she did and what she represented.

I didn't vote, I'm thinking somewhere in the middle really...

Yeh I agree there is alot of attention aimed on her at the minute but I think it's well deserved, mainly because of the way she died - that was bang out of order imo, and it wasn't as if she was one of those stuck up celebraties who are really big headed and snobby, she was one of the very few decent people out there so I'm glad she's not forgotten.

No way!!!!! Its the worst newspaper available lol It tries to be gossipy like the sun and the mirror, and it also tried to be like the daily mail. I'll never forget when it had on its front cover (dont think it still does), 10p cheaper than the daily mail. And randomly it changed to 5p cheaper than the daily mail one day lol Btw if you are wondering how i know all this stuff about daily express, i have been doing a paper round for the last year, so i know!

Anyway I know i wasn't born to appreciate her impact. But i know people who have. And whilst they agree she was a very good woman, all this nonsense in the media since is plain stupid. There is about 1 different conspiracy theory every week. I'm sorry, but it would be so much better if none of this was reported. If, 10 years after the crash, you still don't know what really happened, you are never going to know!

Also, there are people who have done even better things than Diana, but they don't get reported? Whilst I am not trying to belittle her reputation, but why is this then?

Ben
