What music genre do you like the most?

I like all genres except hard house techno crap, but the poll won't allow that!!! Used to be exclusively indie but the older i get the more genres i like.

Not all dance fans are chavs. Whilst its not my cup of tea i know solicitors and engineers - professional people - who love dance, rave techno, and the like. Though it begs the question would you really want a solicitor who has no taste representing you?!

Rock all the way so far i see! My favourite genre as well. I like alternative as well, (its joint with rock, maybe slightly lower down in the order...). I'm one of those who likes all genres though, apart from dance! which all my mates all hate, and defo in my area, at least, if you are going to argue dt, people who like dance are chavs! What do people see in dance music btw, its all the same beat. Takes nothing to make and its the biggest pile of crap i've ever listened to if you ask me!

Anyway what are you on about me "being prejudiced again" dt lol? I was talking against the people who were maybe being prejudiced against germany in another thread lol I'm so not predjudiced anyway, the type of music you listen to ususally gives a defining view of a person's personality imo and after talking to other people, its lots of other people's opinions as well!

Ben, it's not all about your mates all the time though. This is not the first time you're using mates, or people you know to back up your opinion. The world isn't about your mates, there's different people out there. You've gotta look at things from a bigger perspective, and not use your mates for judging what's good and what's bad etc.

I don't wanna argue about a stupid thing like that, but I didn't like you stating that Dance is for chavs. Because I'm about the furthest thing from a chav you'll ever get to know, and yet I like dance.

i agree with you about stereotyping people i like abit of everything but it doesnt mean im a wigger, chav, emo or goth.

i cant stand being branded as chav, skater, emo or whatever i prefer to be myself and not follow new fads.

i mainly like rock though.

I'm not just saying what mates are saying! I'm saying from my personal opinion and these opinions are backed up by mates, and loads of other people who i don't even know!

As for that emo, or goth statement, that's pure rubbish, as rock fans are usually the people who differ the most. I like kooks, aerosmith, and bands which are associated with surfing, and not emo or goth lol

There's a lot of rock i don't like, but on the whole it's got my favourite music in it.

This is a slightly circular argument. We tend to make friends with people with similar opinions, tastes, and outlooks as us - whether as a conscious process or not. Hence it is only to be expected that your mates will back up your opinion, as they likely have similar opinions which is why they are your mates.

But this kind of support for a statement or opinion is merely anecdotal and not backed up by objective research, which means it cannot authoritatively be bandied about as proving something.
