Oh Yes... I tried to find an exact explanation of how channel 4's premier league poker was done but couldn't!

From what i remember though I think they had 12 people, and each person ends up playing 6 games of 6 seat poker, then depending on the placings of each game they were given points and the top 4 after 6 games go through to the final, the bottom 2 get knocked out and the middle 6 play another game, and the 2 leaders on points out of those 6 after that game take the final 2 places at the final table.

But the interesting thing is that the number of points they took to the final table dictated how many chips they take, so someone could start the final a massive chip leader!

I think this kind of format is pretty much impossible to set up on william hill and it'd take a lot of effort for someone to keep track of it all manually so maybe we should just do something simpler.

What if we announce a 'registration period' which is a week long and anyone who wants to commit to a mini league has to put their name forward, this is to stop people joining in halfway through and keeping it fair. Then 3 games get played over 3 weeks (scheduled to meet everyone's needs) for the smallest buy-in possible, and the top placings in those games get points attributions, say:
1st = 6
2nd = 4
3rd = 2
4th, 5th, 6th = 1 point each

And after 3 games the winner gets a small prize put up by one of the networks? This could be seen as a tester for the format and if successful maybe it could spread to more people / longer time period (and bigger prizes?).

I think for this initial league though it'd need to be capped at around 12 people, so that each game doesn't go on too long, it'd be easier to schedule and because I think out of everyone who normally plays we'd only be able to find 12 people! (also out of fairness i think people who've made the effort and played before would take priority for places over new people)

What does everyone else think and if the mods agree maybe we could start the registration thread as a sticky somewhere?

(Also Jon because you host the poker games do you get all the results stored somewhere, it would be interesting to post those up from all the games that've been played and see who's been playing / winning!)

EDIT: Actually maybe the 3 week thing shouldn't apply, as a tester it should probably be 3 games that get played whenever according to times when everyone is around to play?

Thanks all, finally came 1st!!

congrats to macattack and claire aswell!

good game mac, well played!

until next time mate!!

ps. yeh that league thing sounds good, i reckon if there was a league people would be more willing to play aswell, at the minute i think the general attitude is if you're on the internet and not doing anything else then you'll join in but if there was a league then it would defo make the poker alot more worth while!!
