Eep... I've ordered Windows 7 Pro with my school email but I'm on XP, not Vista. This is a problem, right?

EDIT: Just checked the site. It's fine to go from XP but just a little more complicated.

I can't see anything on the site about installing from scratch, only upgrading. I have preordered home premiunm for £45 from Dixons see but would much rather save money using this offer.

If you're thinking about upgrading a PC from Windows XP to Windows 7, please download and run the free Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if your PC can run Windows 7 acceptably.

If you decide to install Windows 7 on a PC running Windows XP, you'll need to do a custom installation. This is sometimes called a "clean install" because it erases the contents of your PC. To avoid losing anything, you'll need to make copies of all the files, photos, and other information you want to keep. You'll also need to have installation disks for all the programs you want to use.

If you have an external hard drive, you can use it with the free Windows Easy Transfer program to help back up your files and information.

After Windows 7 is installed, you'll need to reinstall your programs and use Windows Easy Transfer to move your files and information back onto your PC.

Right...so would I actually need to have XP installed though? I'm just wondering whether to cancel the preorder from Dixons and buy this instead.

I'm guessing not to be honest, based on how it's worded. That's not definite though!

Panda is a jewel in the rough
I just bought it last night.
It came to £34.

I bought the extended download, whats that?

Any tips for me, what if it doesnt work... will all my stuff be deleted ?
Is it worth making a backup disk? If so, how?

Thankyou for any answers.

Well in the terms and conditions it says:

Promotion Eligibility: This offer is good only to eligible students and staff who attend or are employed at an educational institution geographically located in the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man. This offer is non-transferable. One of either Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade or Windows 7 Professional Upgrade may be purchased per eligible student or member of staff (but not required).

So it's basically saying that you have to be a member of staff or student to buy the key, but it can pretty much be used by whoever. It doesn't say anything about who is using it. Microsoft aren't going to follow up any of the orders anyway.
