Get paid to give blood!

Blood donors get paid up to £100 for donating 600ml of blood, and also receive £5 for travel expenses.

http://www.trials4us.co.uk/

You can do this if you fit the criteria and are really desperate for some free cash.

Re: Get paid to give blood!

I really feel I need to comment on this. I have been giving blood regularly for over 2 years now, and I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone could charge money for something that you can live so easily without, and something that really does save other people's lives on a daily basis. Surely giving blood is one of the smallest sacrifices you could possibly make, and how could money ever replace the warm, glowy feeling you get from doing something charitable, just out of the goodness of your heart? Incidentally, it appears from this website that the blood will be used for commercial purposes (the development of more - often unnecessary - drugs which will be sold exclusively on Western markets for extortionate prices - how else can they afford to pay all their donors £60-100 a pop?) rather than for the benefit of providing cancer patients and victims of serious accidents with life-saving blood transfusions. Ok, so I am well aware that Exceem is all about "getting something for nothing" and "making a quick and easy buck", but THIS is where I draw the line between thriftiness and pure avarice.

Re: Get paid to give blood!

Yes, stop all this unnecessary drug research. It's subverting natural selection. Blood should only be allowed to be given for transfusion. Someone make a law.

It's a commercial venture. That's why you get paid.

Re: Get paid to give blood!

i do actually agree with couch potato on this one

also its not just give blood its clinical trials..

Doesnt anyone remember the people that nearly died a few months ago for a few quid?

THIS IS A BIG NO NO

NO!!!!!

Here is the news from a few months ago.

Trialing experimental drugs on humans carries obvious risks, which is why patients sign multi-page consent forms listing scary outcomes. But a clinical trial in Great Britain has just gone wrong beyond anyone`s worst imaginings.

Six men became seriously ill -- all are in intensive care, two of them in critical condition -- after taking an experimental anti-inflammatory drug designed to treat conditions like leukemia and rheumatoid arthritis. The drug is known as TBN1412 and was developed by TeGenero AG.

In its first trial on humans, the six men got violently ill, the BBC reported, quoting one man`s girlfriend as saying he was motionless and 'puffed up like the Elephant Man.'

Re: Get paid to give blood!

mmmm - torn on this one.

if its just a matter of taking blood out and not putting drugs into the body... then why not get paid for doing this? The development of drugs (as evil as some companies can be) is neccessary for finding cures for diseases and taking the pain out of somones life.

however, if you have never given blood before (as in blood donation) then dont start here. Give some away before you sell it - I, personally, think you can do both.

Re: Get paid to give blood!

can i just point out that the six people got a low dosage of the drug and it reacted with an enzyme found in humans and not in the animals it had been tested on. Unfortunately this is a one off with bad concequences... its very similar to Chernobyl in the fact that one little accident has almost crippled the industry... as some of you know I am very interested in Cystic Fibrosis, without people doing drug trials people would never get anywhere close to a cure.... Cancer loads of people die each year of, but around 50 take part in drugs trials for drugs that get rid of cancer every year... Shouldnt more people take part and bring it that step closer to finding a cure...
Now while I give blood every four months like a good little boy but most of people who COULD give blood dont... perhaps there should be a better incentive and mutli-national drugs companies should team up with the national blood service to get more people to give blood.

Re: Get paid to give blood!

fully agree - drug company can have one arm and national blood service the other. we need to keep pushing for cures and keep pressing drug companies to be more socially minded - esp in terms of making cheap licenses available for the developing world

however, reference to chernobyl as "one little accident" probably misses the mark a little in terms of impact. Lots of people died, thousands more will die or become ill, massive chunks of that country are uninhabitable and the site will have to be monitored for as long as human beings are alive ~ I will say again... "as long as humans are alive"

Re: Get paid to give blood!

only 6% of the population who can give blood do give blood, if a monetary incentive is nesessary to increase this even just for testing then so be it. these multinational companies will easily make the money back anyway.

Re: Get paid to give blood!

Your being injected with drugs, so no need to worry about any problems or other issues being posted by people here, you are only donating blood, nothing more nothing less.

I agree with donating blood for free, but there is nothign wrong with donating for money.

Would you discriminate between people who donate their old clothes to cancer charity shops as opposed to people slelling their old clothes?

Even if it is for commercial use it is still providing blood for a useful purpose that we still benefit many people.

People are getting carried away here talking about issues relating to drug trial patients, which has NOTHING to do with the topic at hand.

Oh and donating sperm will only net you are £25 if your lucky, and you cannot donate enough to get rich doing it Oh and if your a woman, you can net £300 - £2000 for donating an egg

Re: Get paid to give blood!

someone i know donates sperm at £40 a time but you can only once a month...

CF There is a cure it is gene therapy (which is actually just the nice name cause its really gene alteration, but that is opposed to by many activists) its an expensive process and thats why it is not widely used, theyu are trying to develop a way to do it cheaper and more feasable

I have studied chernobyl alot as I am very interested in nuclear stuff, it is not a little disaster I know... i used the wrong phrase Im sorry but I was comparing. I could so easily turn this into a politcal debate as well but I wont

i might make a few people upset her but this is my thought

i would rather a monkey die testing drugs then a human.

sounds crual i know
animal testing is wrong for cosmetics but for life saving drugs.
give it the monkey.
