Free Download: Windows 8 Developer Preview

For those of you who haven't been keeping up with the news at the Microsoft BUILD this week, they have been showing off the new Windows 8, which is a lot like the OS on Windows Phone devices. They give away 5000 free tablets running the OS to developers at the conference and have made it available for the public to download for free.

Download: Windows Metro Style Apps Developer Downloads

Is advised to install the OS on a spare PC or in a virtual environment: http://www.windows8news.com/2011/09/...loper-preview/

Nice. I think the new interface looks interesting, but it's aimed at touch screens so not sure how good an experience it would be with a mouse.

Yea, I like the idea of integrating apps into the interface and as a tablet OS people are saying good things. However on a Desktop PC without the touchscreen i'm not so sure about it. Though if you don't like it you can switch over to another UI which is basically Windows 7 with the new design of Windows 8 integrated into it!

It's a bit of a big download on my crappy 2MB connection. I'd need to leave it running for hours.

I'm running it in Fusion right now, no errors so far!
It's been designed with touch screens in mind. I cannot see myself using a touchscreen PC, would give you terrible arm ache after just a short while...that's why there's tablets

I'm patiently waiting on BT Infinity Broadband, takes two weeks. Neighbour is getting around 30MB down and 8MB up... can't wait, will be nice change from 5MB!

There was also a tablet running Windows 8 at the Microsoft BUILD powered by the new Kal-El quad-core processor. Will be coming to tablets/smartphones soon and is supposed to significantly improve battery life. Couldn't help but notice the name however, what a name for a processor... I want one just based on the name!!

Yep you definitely are confusing them, Japan has some of the fastest speeds in the world. I used to live there and a 1 GB file could download in just a few minutes.

Meanwhile in China...
