I would imagine there is something in the T&C that will force you to renew at least one year with UK2.Net before they will consider releasing the domain's IPS tag.

They just gave you this domain for free, it would stand to reason that they would want at least something back out of it...

Well you change the auto renew to manual. Don't have to pay them anything.

At the bottom of a whois search on one of the domains ...

Domain status: clientTransferProhibited

So you may have a bit of trouble transferring until you have at least 1 years renewal under your belt.

I know its a massive ask but would somebody be able to purchase a domain name for me seeming as it is free?
I currently dont have a debit/credit card and by the time i get one the special offer would've ended.
No worries if you cant im not really expecting anyone to.

The problem with that is that you would never be able to have control over your domain and would always be tied to whoever bought it for you.

Example A...
Dave buys you the domain and you tell him the nameservers you need it pointed at and everything is hunky dory.
Then in 6 months you need to change hosts so need a new nameserver.
Where is Dave ?

Example B...
Dave buys you the domain and gives you the login details and you (understandably) change the password to make it yours, no problem with that.
You then have Dave's CC details tied to that account as there is no way to change or delete the details in there, trust me i've tried.
Dave is gonna be pissed at that...

This is also the case if Dave "Splits Off" your new domain into a new account.
Split Off accounts from the main account are still registered to Dave.

So you see, there is no way for Dave to disassociate himself from you once this transaction is complete without leaving his Card details tied to your account.

Your best bet is to either get a friend of yours to do it that has a card and trusts you or ask a parent/relative.

I personally wouldn't want my card details tied to an account that someone else off the internet has access to, no offence intended...

Just common sense...

Absolutely, yes.

He will be able to point the nameservers to your webspace and that will allow you complete control through your own cPanel / FTP etc etc to do it yourself, everything will be as a normal account that you own.

What i'm getting at is it doesn't look like he will be able to transfer the domain to your own account so that you have total control, you will either need to get him to edit the nameservers if you move your site to another host or you will need him to give you the account details for you to be able to log in and do it yourself.
The downside of this (for him) is that his CC details are tied to that account with no way of editing / deleting them so he would have to trust you not to renew the domain at the end of the free period with his details.

If I am wrong and someone has already successfully transferred a domain to someone else or been able to remove the CC details from the account then please let us know.

It's the only downfall of these free domains that I can see, otherwise it's very good of UK2 to give them away, helping a lot of people onto the website ladder.

**Edit**
Just to clarify, he will not be able to edit your actual website unless you give him cPanel / FTP access to your webspace.
But you will need him to edit the nameserver tags on the domain account if you need to move hosts.
I just re-read what I had written above and thought i'd say this as it didn't quite read right to me :P
