Peta isn't just for vegetarians, they have a huge anti-fur campaign. It's partly for veggies but the main idea is animal rights.

Woah, had a look around the site and there's some pretty disturbing images there.... I am glad I was already vegetarian but I suspect I would be now anyway! Avert your eyes if you enjoy steak....

Joking apart though, there's some good stuff on that site - did you now that the Queen's guards still use real bear fur on those hats? Like anyone could tell the difference.

It's got nothing to do with that - yes they advocate vegetarianism but the pack is about how to keep healthy whilst doing it. This is incredibly important since so many teenage girls (and of course other people) turn veggie without having a clue how to stay healthy. I've been vegetarian since the age of 11 (I wouldn't like to tell you how long that is) and in my ignorance have ended up with several health problems.

The real thing they are against though is animal cruelty. I think practically everyone in this country understands that killing animals for fur is unacceptable. There are so many other animals being killed or mistreated uneccessarily both in the UK and the rest of the world. Why should we just ignore this?

So please don't badmouth PETA, there are health organisations that would be much more strongly against your McNuggets.

PETA believe that animals should have all the same rights as humans which is frankly just daft. They also provide financial support to eco-terrorists. And quite franly I don't think that killing animals for fur is wrong, ok it may not be necessary now that we have pretty good artifical fibres, and I would consider it a waste if the rest of the carcass wasn't used for something else, but thats it. PETA needs a little bad mouthing before teenage girls start to think it is acceptable to petrol bomb medical labs.

It isn't! They kill many animals for one each coat (which have been living in unacceptable conditions), use the nice soft bits and probably incinerate the rest. It takes 55 minks or 100 chinchillas to gain enough fur for just one coat. They don't oppose the wearing of leather, that would be silly! I don't see why animals shouldn't be granted rights just like we are just because they can't speak. Nobody claims they should be given the same rights as humans, I haven't noticed the "give pets a vote" campaign by PETA. I believe some basic rights should be given to all creatures, such as the right to live without being subjected to intentional cruelty.

I must admit I'm with Bruffterman on this one....

Some people don't even respect other people, some don't give the homeless or starving dignity, respect or aid! How about you get chucking your money and efforts towards PEOPLE in need instead of ANIMALS? Those ridiculous adverts with fluffy animals on that you see on TV sometimes just distract from REAL causes in my opinion. Get on the soap box about something worthwile why don't you!

I would never advocate protecting animals over humans. I think we ALL have the right to live without suffering where it can be helped. There are several worthwhile causes with charities and organisations to help them, I don't see Cancer Research criticising the RSPCA. They just let each other get on with their own worthwhile causes!
