Well straight away you are paying supertax as you are earning over 37 k a year, then you have to take into account you will be heavily taxed for having a company car as well, and then even heavier next year when all the new tax laws are in place.

but you get taxed whatever job you do don't you, i wouldn't avoid a job or salary due to fear of being taxed - mind you, not sure if i really wanna be an area manager for aldi after getting a degree anyway!!

Has anyone even been in a aldi? Most depressing shop ever, its like stepping back in time + it isnt even cheap! £40k nice...but i really dont think i could work in store there as manager, would end up gasing myself in my company car!

You should seriously listen to grabrails advice, especially if you took out a student loans and need to pay it back !

so you're recommending me to not take a job that pays well? Surely it helps, especially if I have alot of student loan debt to pay back - earning 15k-20k isn't gonna get me anywhere when paying my student loan back is it?

@Simon - Yeh, wouldn't take the job but was just amazed at how much some companies pay. Mind you, I'd be lucky if they gave me a second look at looking at my CV

What I am saying is that you would be better off getting a salary below the 37.5k mark and ditch the company car.

That way you only payy about 22% take as opposed to 40% tax on anything over, plus more for the privilidge of having a company car which will cost about 1200 a year in tax alone, then your fuel

I just did this in uni!

Say for example you are earning £50,000, you wouldn't get taxed on the first £6,035, the next £34,000 you get taxed 20% and then final £7,965 would be 40%.

Another good tip is to put money in a pension fund, you can put up to £235,000 away before being taxed, so therefore maybe worth considering doing that to get it out of the 40% bracket!
