This Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 400GB is only £64.49 delivered from Dabs! I think that is a pretty nice price for that kind of storage!

I know, but I didn't see anywhere else where it would be appropriate, and as other non-freebies (but good deals anyway) had been posted here, I thought this was probably the best place

Strider: 4? LOL, Fair enough....

I think my motherboard only accepts 2, and one of them is already filled by one SATA

Bruffterman ~ since you seem to know.. or anyone else!

If I would to buy this drive could I buy an external case and use it as an external hd instead of internal.. reason is I already got two IDE drives and 2 DVD drives in my PC.. I think you can only have up to 4 drives right? Or can you add a SATA drive also?

Cheers
Tom

If you have a motherboard that accepts SATA it's usual to be able to have 2 SATA ports, 2 IDE ports (total of 4 IDE drives). as long as the bios is set up correctly, 2 HDD's in the SATA ports, AND the IDE drives full does work comfortably.

My current set up is 2 Sata HDD and 1 IDE HDD and 1 DVD Drive (i broke my other IDE port sucks huh)

Re: Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 400GB Internal Hard Drive - £65!

bought one

came yesterday. When I tried to install it, found that my powersupply didn't have a sata power connector. so I ordered a normal power > sata power adaptor on ebay and received it today (fastest ever delivery on ebay).

When I installed, I found that the PC only detected 128GB. I had win2k SP4. I found that I needed LBA support on my os. BIOS supported this, and so does sp4, but I needed to enable it via registry and restart.

Works fully now, although the drive isn't actually 400GB, but about 376GB.

actually you'll find it technically is :P its another trick that manufactorers/service providers do, alike advertising megabit broadband rather than megabyte....making ppl who don't know the difference think that what they order will be faster.

hdd manufactorers give you the gigabyte figure based upon the number of available bytes, there are 1024 bytes in a kilobyte...where as in the maths they will use 1000 :P heres some nice maths for you.

400000000000 bytes = 372.52903gb (what you have approx)

what you probably expected:

429496729600 bytes = 400gb

(i googled a calculator to tell that not my brain, i'm not that lame)
