Virtual cards

There has been a lot of debate recently about the use of virtual credit cards, including a lot of revoked greens and accounts on hold.

I for one use a virtual netteller card for onine purchases where I have a glimmer of doubt about the site I am using it at.

Yes, virtual cards are typically ''one use only' and cannot be reused, but surely this is only relevant to offers like gamefly/lovefilm.intuit where the offer has expectations of a customer actually paying.

I understand that the use of a virtual card must look as though the person has no intent of carrying on the offer, but this is a NO OBLIGATION free TRIAL. I am pi$$ed off because I have lost a green, and I personally have no comebackj for this, I have spent time and money on a site promoting freebiejeebies but yet again feel victim to a knee jerk reaction by an advertiser who are not getting as many conversions as they would like!

All that needs to happen is Lovefilm to have a similar 'kneejerk reaction' against incentive sites and the entire scene will die, we all rely on the totally free aspect far too much, we need the return of cheap offers to enable us to keep the advertisers happy, freebiejeebies happy and ultimately both us and our own end users happy.

A £5 Little Bid Tasty offer would be the way to go imo.

Moneymaker1 is on a distinguished road
I agree you can't pivot a whole company on one offer, which is fragile. Along with Intuit and Homestead. Like Icks mentioned we need cheap offers and one that would satisfy everyone in the freebie business. Xpango have a lot of different offer. Freebiejeebies have been exceptional so far but I fear for it's future, Gamefly has gone and I'm sure many people will agree that Lovefilm doesn't want going.

I ve just applied for a Payoneer card....

their t&c's state

Be smart!Do not use your prepaid card to register for free trial offers. Some companies begin charging a fee each month after the trial period. You will be responsible for these charges.
Maybe its quite a common problem in the US!!

Although this would be ideal you seem to forget that most people that sign up to freebiejeebies likes free stuff and are more inclined to complete the free offer rather than the paid 1.

I agree.... however people are also likely to be sceptical and reluctant to give out actual card details online so may resort to virtual/prepay/giftcards when they do.... surely during the free trial period this shouldnt matter.... if people wish to continue they can always put the funds onto the card.. it is no different to using free sims to do ringtone offers...........

Eligibility for a Free Trial
Free trials are only available to new subscribers to the LOVEFiLM Rental Service (and not the Pay As You Go Service, the Watch Online Service or any other product or service). Previous subscribers or triallists (of LOVEFiLM or any other service provided by the LOVEFiLM group of companies and any websites powered by Screenselect, Video Island or LOVEFiLM) do not qualify for a free trial. The free trial is available only once to any one person and to only one member of a household. Subsequent free trials by the same person at any address, or by another person at the same address, are not permitted. You must have internet access and valid payment details to redeem a free trial offer.
Upon registering for your free trial, your method of payment will be authorised for up to three months of service - to verify your identity, and to protect us from theft and fraud. Some banks or payment card companies may reflect this authorisation against your available balance or credit limit. No actual charges, however, will be made against the card if you cancel and return all discs to us prior to the end of your free trial.
Your free trial period will commence on the date registration is completed and the account is successfully created.

GamrFly t&cs
Free Trials, Trial Memberships, and Discount Introductory Offers

We offer free trials, trial memberships, and discount introductory offers of the Service to allow customers to become familiar with the many benefits of the subscription plans we offer. These trials and introductory offers are available to new (first-time) customers only, limited to one per household, and cannot be combined with any other offer. These limited trials and introductory offers are only valid in the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. A valid credit card is required. WE AUTHORIZE THE CARD UP TO THE AMOUNT OF ONE MONTHLY FEE IN ORDER TO VERIFY THE ACCOUNT. We receive no money from this transaction, even if your bank or credit card company temporarily holds the funds in your account.

Most virtual cards are extremely well verified for identity, even the ones bought in newsagents need address verification before they can be used on line.

I fail to see the problem with them, unless of course it implies no intention to continue after the trial and it is revenue maximising by the advertisers....
