Nero has a spectacular aura about
Not giving out the sweets to the people who come knocking at my door.

Then going to a party later.

Snap, never give anything to trick or treaters, it's just begging imo. We had a little lad knock on the door yesterday afternoon, no costume or anything and he was trick or treating! I never said a word and just shut the door!

I don't tend to do anything for Halloween, it's an American thing.

Acting like a halloween scrooge and telling little kids to use their pocket money to buy sweets instead of going "Trick or Treat!" (a.k.a begging) for sweets

I'm not going to say your wrong but from what I have heard its actually an Celtic thing, we get a monthly village lincs magazine printed by Lincolnshire media and I read about it and it said that it started off in Ireland. before that i believed it was an american thing.
Just found this from History.com about halloween and its Origin
Halloween — History.com Articles, Video, Pictures and Facts

And I am not doing a thing apart from possible coursework!

Seriously guys, they are children.
Let them have their bit of fun.

We spend £40 or £50 or so on sweets and other crap and let them have a lucky dip type thing.
This is one night only though, on the proper night for it.
Any other night and they just get told to come back.

Last year 2 guys knocked on and they were about 15 years old.
They got told to go away in no uncertain terms :P

I was brought up to believe it was begging and I was never allowed to trick or treat and when you get people knocking at the door every 5 minutes all begging I can see why I was never allowed to do it as it is very annoying!

If the kids want sweets its up to the parents to buy them some, not every other tom, dick and harry on their street!

Begging? I agree with cruelworld on this one, it's just a bit of fun, dig out the outdated sweets that have been stuck in the cupboard for ages and feed them those, that's what i do!

It was always just a bit of fun with some friends, to get a few sweets and a few pennies. I will be going to town no doubt dressed like a tart...

It's not begging at all.
It's a bit of fun for the kids and nothing more.

When you've had enough just stick a polite sign on the door saying it's over, you bunch of lil scamps have bled us dry or something like :P
