eXceem Improvement Suggestions

Hi all,

I am opening this up to the community after being asked myself what improvements, changes and additions I would make to the forum.

Please post below if you have any sensible suggestions that could help improve the forum. We will consider all suggestions mentioned but we may not implement all of them.

Please post in the following format:

Suggestion: SEO section in eXtra
Reason: Most members of eXceem own websites and have places they go for SEO. I think it would be a valuable addition to include an area we can share tips, tricks and links (non affiliate) between everyone.

Please keep this thread on topic, I will remove irrelevant posts.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions

Suggestion: Congas down to single greens and limit queue length to 5*
Reason: Make them move a little bit quicker, and appear more useful than goint to the bottom of a list of 25 people!!!

*Maybe have multiple congas per site.

Allow congas of non-freebie sites? (after mod vetting of course) .... I'm sure some people have tools they use that could benefit from referrals

Suggestion: Monetisation
Reason: I know that this is a bone of contention, but why not have Exceem affiliate accounts for hosting, domains etc etc, it can only be of benefit to the site in the long run.

Suggestion: FreebieAngel
Reason: To be replaced with an Exceem topsite list.

Suggestion: Random Referrer
Some kind of rotator that new exceem users could click on to join if they havent already. Goes to a random exceem user.

Contests, Giveaways ! Perhaps a lucky draw where members have to participate in an offer to qualify This could happen if exceem joins some affiliate program. It could be a free offer (where exceem could gain money by "leading" or "clicking" any member) and prize could be ipod nano or money transfer. Period could be 7 days, it can happen once every month ..

Or a giveaway ($30 paypal transfer) Eg. Predict a date of iPhone 5 release and win amazing prizes.

I know we have sections like "i got my free item" and "news" but new tabs/bar could be at top of the page for both testimonials and news (testimonials: where round up of every 15 days could be placed under that tab, basically mentioning who won what in last 15 days. News: A mod can update news everyday about the gadget world (newly launched Torch 2, rumours about iPhone 5, OS update, Best iPhone, blackberry and android apps), they could have a special tie up with certain websites or products)

Suggestion: The new owner Seb should maybe invest in a new theme
Reason: A bit torn on this one myself as i'm so used to this theme but at the same time it's also a pretty outdated theme. If he was to update to a new theme it would have to please the majority of the members...

.. or if its possible we could modify the themes (which could be saved and linked with our exceem accounts)

Suggestion: Removing the 5 minute post editing limit
Reason: It gets a bit annoying when you have a silly spelling mistake and you can't change it. Also, most other forums I use don't have this rule.

Suggestion: A youtube button on the wysiwyg editor
Reason: Gets annoying having to type the bb code out yourself and most forums have some kind of button for this.

p.s. a button for a spoiler would be good too!

This has made me think.. does Seb have any coding/programming experience?
Little changes like this could have been quickly implemented by Jon, but what about Seb?!

SEO and maybe a non-freebie section in the websites forum.

The SEO basics are already on here in various posts, but who is going to go that step further and share detailed link building techniques/sources for example? Why would you want to help your competitors to get the jump on you?

Don't get me wrong, I have always done my best to assist individuals who have asked for help but it's always been in the context that they are the sort of people who give more back to the community in other ways. The problem with opening up to the community in general is that there are far too many people willing to take and very few who give back. That's not just limited to SEO of course, it's been a problem across the forum in general over recent years in my view.

Just my two pennies worth, I just don't think there will be enough of a balance to make the SEO section work.

I agree that there will be more people wanting to take and not give back, but we are discussing strict rules and requirements regarding access if it was to be added. There are several members who have helped contribute SEO tips to the forum and it would be good to have those all in one useful place. Examples of the criteria we are discussing include minimum # of post, active member for X months etc etc

and as I said at the time, more of a FAQ rather than a guide.

Would limiting access to a topic really add to the community spirit? What say an SEO guru joins as a new member and wants to be involved?

Should we also have a similar sub-forum for sharing methods?

I'm playing Devil's advocate here, perhaps someone could explain how they see an SEO section working so that I might understand it and get on board?

we all tell people that creating a blog/website is the best way to get greens.. then they all just sit back and expect them to come pouring in.

this section would be about what to do once you have set up a website.. I know most of us are self taught... but lets not forget there was a time when it was frowned upon by certain members to mention DP.

I agree, even if there was a SEO section on the forum nothing that hasn't already been said somewhere on the forum will get posted in it. Most people who are doing well in the SERPs have spent lots of time over the years reading information on other forums, websites, ebooks etc... and aren't going to reveal their SEO methods so that others can knock them down the SERPs.

Plus people don't want to share good SEO methods as there might be other members on the forum using the same method who don't want to share it.
