My website has helped me get referrals BUT not "a lot" of referrals. You need to advertise and promote your site in order to get "a lot" of referrals, which I don't tend to do much... Friends and family can be really annoying when they think it's a scam. You must have one good friend who might listen? I told my close mate and he signed up and then he began pestering EVERYONE until he got himself a Free PS3! He did better than me, as I don't tell many people about it... So don't give up and making a website will be good thing because even if you don't manage to get referrals, at least you'll have a new skill (even you don't already know how to make websites) which is really handy!
