Member of the year 2007 Debate 2

This is a debate between arcticfox20 and the_saint before the final of the member of the year poll opens.

Unfortunately I dont have a exact time that the debate will start, and I have to go away for the day, so hopefully arcticfox20 and the_saint will arrange a time to get this going and debate away!

Have fun guys

Re: Member of the year 2007 Debate 2

Well we were due to start at 4.00 but arctic said he might be running late so i'll start and wait for him to respond. I should also point out I might have to dash at some point to take my bro home so this may end up lasting a while!

Firstly I would like to say thankyou to everyone who voted for me in th Semi-Final. I didn't even expect to get nominated so to be in the final is a great surprise.

And to beat such luminaries as DariusTim (the man rumoured to be the real father of Jessica Alba's baby), Moviedrome (who only started FreebieJeebies as the result of a drunk dare with Santa Claus), Chigley (the coding world's very own Doogie Howser MD), as well as the rest means a lot.

I also think its interesting that a scot and a half scot are the finalists, if only uptheboro wasn't banned!

I don't expect to beat the man, the legend, Mr Acticfox but I will try to give you some reasons to vote for me in any case. I want these to be positive reasons to vote for me, rather than negative reason to not vote for him so I will try to keep them like that.

You see, I joined in January and my time on exceem has been a journey. From the early days and my infractions for insulting members and posting my ref link (by accident and before anything about coding etc may I point out!), to the day's when I used to get really annoyed by everything little thing a Noob would do, to my current zen like state of mind.

During this year, I have tried all the well known methods and was quite succesful with some of them, but I am currently in a similar position to most other exceemers in that I don't really have a method. I have a site that is placed high in google but this has taken months to happen and I am only now seeing the results. I feel that in this respect I represent the everyman of exceem - struggling to get those greens and trying method after method - and a vote for me is a vote for the everyman.

Don't get me wrong, I bow down to the methods af arctic who clearly has some magic up his sleeve, and I respect his haul - but I think most exceemers can relate more closely to my experiences of exceem and the freebie world.

I'll say it again, to be in the final feels great, and I don't expect to win but I would like your votes to at least stop it being a white wash!!

Thanks.

Oh yes, sorry, who ever you decide to vote for make sure you at least vote!

Re: Member of the year 2007 Debate 2

Good afternoon boys and girls and good afternoon the_saint. I tried to hurry Mrs Fox up as she was shopping but she didnt understand why her shopping should suffer because of exceem....pah, no respect lol

Anyway, as I've said before, thank you to all those that voted for me and also to those that voted for the_saint. I hope all will register their vote again when the poll opens.

I was very honoured to be nominated in the first place and gobsmacked to have got so many votes, I honestly didnt expect such legends as people like the_icks and detox to name just 2.

I hadnt realised the_saint had only been here a year but he has become a very welcome member, as reflected in his votes. Either that or he's offered free law advice to a lot of people lol.

Its hard for me to say why I think people have voted for me and why I think I deserve to be Member of the year. I think it's probably because I'm on exceem what seems like all the time but I do genuinely try and help people if I can. I try to inject a bit of humour when I can and the odd rant when needed, just like real life.

In the last year I have seen many members come and go and many gifts heading all over the UK and I can honestly say I feel good when I see someone post their free gift, especially the first one. I may have a few freebies now under my belt but I get the same buzz now as when I got my first freebie.

I dont think there's anything I would change on exceem, it runs smoothly with the admins and mods in control and the regulars trying to help. I've seen other forums and this one is 10 times better.

Member of the year would be a real honour and probably the best freebie that I ever would have but even to finish second would still be amazing and no disgrace.

MOTY is a bit of fun and should be seen that way but it's still very flattering to be thought of so highly by so many members, thank you.

I urge you all to vote.....preferably for the old scottish bloke lol

Indeed, and look at the great strides I have made in such a short period of time - surely a reason to vote for me! There is something poetic about being member of the year you signed up in.

I agree. I remember that first freebie feeling well. The combination of getting something completely for free and having any doubts you may have had about this whole "scene" wiped away is a sweet and intoxicating opiate-esque one.

I have had a couple of amazon vouchers which are great, but getting the unexpected iPod Touch the other day reminded of how great it feels to actually get a physical gift sent direct to you. I think I may be going down this route from now on.

Indeed, do as Paris Hilton says, not as she does.

You can't not vote for a saint, it's like blasphemy!?!

I may have been here now for 2 years but I really feel that I have come of age this year. Last year I got 6 votes and this year has seen that increase greatly, showing how much I've contributed this year

Getting vouchers is just as good as you can order many things and therefore get many parcels. My postman hates me, but luckily I work with him so he just chucks them at me lol

Anyway, I like to think that next year will see me spending more time on here helping and less time getting freebies, more patience with genuine newbies but harsh but fair when also needed.

Experience can't be beaten.

Yes I think I need more patience with newbies too. Man this is starting to sound like some kind of counselling/self improvement session?!

Lol, I may be old but I can still show you young' uns a thing or two

I think my maturity is why people take my advise, plus we all know lawyers (even trainees) are over paid and crooked lol

Lawyers provide a sterling service to their clients and work tirelessly fighting their clients corner and getting the beast deal for them. We are only as crooked as our clients!

But what about postmen! I used to get my mail before I left my house in the morning - nowadays it comes at 12.00! At least lawyers deliver on time (usually)!

I think when voting people should remember all those freebies that they had to collect from the post office because the postie didn't get them to them before they left for work/school and vote accordingly.

and charge them a fortune for their troubles

This is because royal mail management (and not the postman) decided to make everyone start shifts later, meaning you get your mail later.

which is surely better than having to try and arrange for a courier to re-deliver on another day and then waiting in all day for them to appear at 5PM

I think the members will see postman/women as working class people who work hard for little pay and have to try and supplement their earnings by doing freebie sites. Lawyers on the other hand are seen as cigar smoking, brandy drinking, obese smartypants who supplement their over inflted wages by composing a letter to another lawyer and then charging their "client" an extortionate fee for ending it.....no offense lol.

I see arctic V the_saint to be just like that, a working class family guy against the establishment lol

VOTE arcticfox20, I'm one of you guys

Look up "Law Society Minimum" to see what I earn and you'll see I am in the same boat!

Non taken! All I will say is that in my office the only one of those that applies is the obese bit. I think everyone aspires to one day be rich enough to smoke cigars and drink brandy.

As I've already said, my fellow exceemers can surely relate to my experiences more - the frustration of not having a real method, the jealousy (but respect) at the "big guns" methods, the joy at the few gifts you get. My modest haul shows that it is I who is the man of the people and deserving of my fellow exceemers votes.

I'm sure if I checked back to this time last year, I would have about the same amount of freebies as you do now. Since then it's went mental.

Methods come to those who show patience but sadly too many people join and expect people to hand them freebie methods on a plate after 2 posts or PM asking for help. Sometimes you have to be firm for their benefit also.

As for "big guns", as far as I'm concerned, someone with 1 freebie is as good as someone with many.

I think what I'm trying to say is that I've spent the last year especially answering more posts that a year ago I would have ignored, while still trying not to be arrogant or disrespectful. It's no picnic lol.

I have to say that I dont mind if you get rich but why do I think of you anytime I hear the banker on Deal or no Deal? lol

You have, and I respect that a lot big guy - you are a valuable member indeed.

See, I have also shown Humility in this thread - another important quality in the member of the year!

Wish I could comment on that but I don't watch Deal or no Deal - which is surely another reason to vote for me!?

Most probably in some wine bar lol

Anyway, I will close my side and allow the_saint the last word (which I hope wont be billed to me).

Being MOTY or even runner up will be a big honour for me and I'll try and do exactly what I've done this year. I have no idea what it was so I'm not going to change anything and just be as I am lol.

I've come a long way this year and lots have also come a long way, hopefully next year will be even better for all.
I would like to congratulate the_saint in getting to the final, whatever happens and thank Jon for setting up this discussion. I look forward to the voting and will treat it like it is, a bit of fun but also an honour to be there.

Thank you and vote for the common man lol

Hard at work behind my desk more like!

I echo what Arctic said as to be nominated at all was an honour and to be in the final really means a lot. Whatever happens in the final I won't be complaining as to just be there is terrific.

I think we both agree that whoever you vote for please do make sure you vote.
