At the moment I'm stuck with a Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 420 which came with my Dell 4550, since buying the computer 2 years ago, I've removed the crappy 30GB hard drive, and added others, so I have 200GB now, I also added a 512MB ram "card" so I have 768MB of RAM.

It's time I get a new graphics card.

I was looking on amazon and saw this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...867105-6805403 for £60.

I don't really know much about these things but I saw it was 256MB which looks good, but then I saw they were selling other 128MB ones for over £200!

I have no idea what to get, please can some one give me some advice!

Shyam

It entirely depends on how much you want to spend?

Do you have a AGP port or it it PCI-E? I'm guessing it's a AGP

And the card you have shown isn't that great. You really want to get a nVidia 6600GT

And please check your PM's

completed offer on freecentral!

Thanks hinz, I'm gonna use the money I get from freezens when I completed the site, I need 2 more greens for £150, but I've requested him to add a few higher amounts, I think I'll get able to get a free more greens.

Have checked them, will do one later for you.

You can get the 6600GT in both AGP and PCI-E so it should be fine.

You can get the XFX 6600GT 128MB AGP card for around £130

How do I know which I need?

And, there are so many cards out there.. how do I know this is the one for me?

With my current card, I can't play games like Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, and Splinter Cell 2, also when I watch dvd's on the computer, they were a bit fuzzy. Do you know what this card is like, and how long after do you think I'd need to replace it because it's features are "out-dated"?

You need a AGP card. I'm pretty sure the one you have now is AGP. Someone else I'm sure can confirm this?

Ok to do this properly we need;

the make of your mother board
processor type and speed
and as u said u've got 768MB RAM

From there you need to go and read reviews of applicable cards in your price range, i'd suggest starting with Tom's Hardware, as they produce excellent reviews and are (i think!) great for first timers.

I'll be willing to offer any advice you need, but my first bit of advice would be; nothing beats having a good understanding of what your buying, so it is essential to read as much as possible about the subject. Don't just really on others advice, learn what the specs mean, get lots of opinions and reviews from different sites, and make an informed decision. It's the way i buy all my PC parts, i read up and get up to speed before buying anything. For instance, i know very little about PCI-Express, as i've not bought a gfx card in ages, but i'd learn about it if i was looking.

The best is currently the Nvidia 7800GTX. Which will set you back around £350 to £450
