I need help!

I've just bought one and I need to unlock it. How much does this cost at somewhere like The Carphone Warehouse? Are there any trusted and reliable websites that do it for you?

Also, is the cable that comes with the phone the same thing as an "unlocking cable" or are they two different things?

It's mostly Nokias that can be unlocked remotely I'm afraid. A few others of the main brands can be done, but I've found it's usually older models. I'll double check it but I think this is one of the ever increasing number that needs to be physically connected to something to unlock it. Having said that, for a mere £3 I reckon exceem extra's worth it anyway!

With the cable, it may be that the data cable you need is exactly the same one they would use to unlock it, but you'll need the software. This may be available for free on the internet - I unlocked a Samsung for someone that way once. It's worth a look on Google if you have a few minutes!

Thanks Amanda. I don't want to download some random stuff of the net just in case it messes up the phone. Someone's just told me that it costs £35 to get it unlocked in the Carphone Warehouse!!! Argghh! I can't afford that! I might have to stick with crummy T-Mobile even though all my mates and family are on Orange! Bah!

Does anyone know any shops that do it cheaper than that by any chance? Phones 4 U or something....?

About Exceem extra - What is it? What can you do there apart from unlock phones? Where do I sign up? I can't find a link anywhere.

Hi just go to any market that has a phone stall - they usually do them there or will know somewhere - I got my Sony Ericsson unlocked at Leeds market for £5.

I was going to say a similar thing - markets or independent mobile phone shops should unlock it for you. It shouldn't cost more than £10. There are places on the internet, but you have to post the phone away which is probably more hassle than taking it somewhere.

I don't think you can unlock Sony Ericssons without a code from the network, which unfortunately they charge you for.

Hmm, just tried 121 and it said "you have insufficient credit on your account, to make this call you need to top up". That's what it says when I call any number though. The credit check number should say "you currently have 0 pence on your account" shouldn't it?
