RSPCA....the cheek of them!

Quite a controversial title for a thread isn't it!? Well, here is my story of the day.

My nan is a big animal lover, always has been, always will be! For the last four or five years she has had a monthly standing order donation to the RSPCA of £10. So putting that into perspective, in four years she has donated £480 to the RSPCA.

As well as this, she often donates pet food etc. to a collection box in our local ASDA. All sounds great doesn't it, what a kind woman....surely they will have thanked her by letter or something once....

That's where today comes into play.

Letter through the door this morning from the RSPCA to say "Thank You" - what a kind gesture. But wait....

The letter continued and finished along the lines of;"We would be very grateful if you could double your monthly standing order, please contact us to arrange this".

I am absolutely disgusted by this, and my nan couldn't believe what she has read! Surely the fact that she donates ANY amount EVERY month is good enough!

What are your views on this? I for one won't be putting any money in the RSPCA box next time I see it.

On another note....I am 'Spinning' for charity (Age UK) tonight with work....wish me luck!

It is a cheek i think, not matter what sort of finical problems they are in, they shouldn't be asking for more, if anything it will have a backfire affect.

By spinning, you mean cycling?

I think it is inappropriate. I think they should just have said thanks.

However, they do have more expenses. I remember oxfam used to be like £1 but now its £3 i think. Lol i just went to oxfam and it says £2 monthly. but if you want to make a single donation, the lowest is £18. Or choose how much lol.

That's a pretty disgusting thing to do.
'Thanks for giving us money... but could we have twice as much now please' !
They could have worded it a bit better than they did at any rate...

Whilst personally I would have chosen something else (I can think of a lot of charities I find more worthwhile than the RSPCA), I hope it doesn't put her off donating.

Controversial? Not half so controversial as the RSPCA themselves.

Did you know that they no longer take in animals from people who can no longer keep them? They only take "RSPCA generated animals" as they describe them.

Their chief executive earns so much that they haven't yet told anyone how much the new one is going to be paid.

50% of animals that go into RSPCA "care" are killed.

They have been investigated by the police for boltgunning dogs to death.

They were found guilty of perverting the course of justice and fined £10,000 by the High Court.

I think this has been very badly written. Charities may need much more money these days to keep up the running costs, but they shouldn't be asking people who donate for more money, they need to go and target new people!

I am a supporter of the RSPCA and in fact the dogs I grew up with were rescue dogs (we had them from 7 months old to 18 years!), I even worked in their finance dept for a short period! But do find this response a bit shocking. The whole "you've been donating for years, but we need something now so we'll contact you."
