Bristol Ice Rink to Close.

Unfortunately plans are in place to knock down the old ice rink in Bristol to replace the property with student flats :/

Not sure if many people are fussed by this but it is a VERY good rink.. For those who enjoy ice skating, ice karting, dancing on ice .. It's a real shame...

Petition to keep open

Not overly often a given.. But my entire family combined would use it once each fortnight?

Oh that's sad. What they doing with the Gig venue? Knocking that down too I guess. Used to go there a lot when I was in 6th form! My mates used to gig there.

(will sign at work, though there'll be no way of stopping it)

Probably doesn't benefit the community as much as student flats would, that would generate income for the area.

No, the BBC News site says...

The site's owner, the Unite group, which builds student accommodation, said the O2 Academy music venue would not be affected but the ice rink would.

Oh well. Still a shame though. I know the flats would bring more income, but the IceRink was always a great birthday party when you're young!

(Since when was it the O2 academy? I remember it being the Carling Academy!)

MJ the academy venues were branded as Carling until a couple years ago when their branding rights expired. O2 then bought them, so there's O2 Academies in glasgow, london, bristol, birmingham, etc etc
