Googles 'Love/Hate' relationship with Affiliates

The site went heavily affiliate based after the LF trial went and was the only one of my domains to suffer a massive drop in SERPS.

Interesting! Guess it shows there was a definitive reason for the drop.

(In my case at the moment the slight drop is because you lot are doing more SEO than me!)

The only page on my site that dropped was the iPhone affiliate page. Got kicked down 5->80 in the space of a week or so.

So by ****ing up the affiliates Google are forcing the companys to advertise more with google themselves. Bunch of cnuts.

I agree that it's bad form to ban people from making money, unless it's through their own system... but yea, not surprised! Interesting to see it made such an impact though! And very glad I decided not to go affiliate!

There always have to be 10 results on the first page. If the top 10 were previously affiliates, they must have been replaced by others. You'd assume that these other, non-affiliate sites, are of higher quality? So Google is not only making more money, but increasing the quality of its search results.

Affiliate marketing is fine, keep it in moderation and you shouldn't be penalised. Google penalised you because it was seen that your site had the intention of solely affiliates and not much else.
